Can I ask how much you paid for your Cat Door in Glass

We're planning cats but I want them to have a CatDoor . Not the old plastic catdoor that my previous girl had (we don't have that door now m we have double glazed French Doors) .
I want the microchip control so I can allow them access/exit but the 2-way so I can stop the little monsters getting out if need be.

So, door prices I've seen £50-£70
Had a quote for the glass re-fit £330.

I knew this would be ££ but that seems high,

Am I best to go to a big company , small glazers or any other suggestions.
I;m not near Cat Out of Glass .

I need te door before the cats. We;re looking at £80 or so for cats (each) as they'll be Rescues.

(They used to advertise Free Kittens in the newsagents advert board !. )

Any ideas ? ( Door has to be in the glass , no wall suitable)

I had a local glazier come and fit a new glazed panel - I gave them the cat flap and adapter and they built the panel around it - I think it was about £230 and the flap was £70 from amazon (microchip flap with timer)

Similar price here ... ordered the Sureflap plus glass adapter off Amazon (approx £60), local glazier to install new glass with aperture and remove old glass for £240 or £260 (London)

Ours was around £200 but that was several years ago, plus the cost of the cat flap.

I got another quote (more acceptable)

DH just asked "are you looking at cat litter on eBay"

I'm sourcing litter trays and litter .
Then it'll be bowls , food , scratch posts.

Planned where they'll all go........this is before we look for cats Grin , we'll need the Home Check .
I'll need to lock my 19yo DS room, the cats will need a sandwich if they try to find their way round there .

Do you have a brick wall that it could go through? That would be much much cheaper.

BlueberrySkies · 09/05/2019 21:22

Zooplus is good. They sell 40l Cat's Best Cat litter for about £24, but it lasts months and months and doesn’t smell (wet). Definitely found it works out cheaper in the long run.

Sounds about right - we had to replace a pane in a bi-fold door and I seem to recall it was about £300-£400. Those rescue cats turned out expensive.....

TeaandHobnobs · 09/05/2019 21:39

Ours was about £250-£300, including the microchip cat flap - 2 years ago.
They came to measure the pane of glass, then ordered a replacement with the whole cut in, and replaced that pane (the intact one is stored in the shed so we can put it back if we ever move) and installed the flap.
We used a company called Smashing Windows, I think? But a lot of glaziers can do this anyway, I think.

Mine was about £250 as well but my door has two panels so it wasn't the whole full height glass panel, just the lower half.

P.S. There are still free kittens; last year's free kittens are now the cats at rescue centres that no one wants... £80 donation is more than reasonable as cats will come neutered, vaccinated, flea & worm treated, microchipped and usually with a month's free insurance.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 10/05/2019 10:16

Viccat we are looking for adults (our last cat was 2yo when she came to take over our house) .

The Rescue fee covers a lot more than the price I'd pay to have all the neuter/ivaccines/chipping done but it means I don't have to worry about young cats getting pg .
We will most likely take some Catfood as an extra donation when we (hopefully) get our cats .

(But I was Gumtree browsing - without intention- and there were young kittens £60-£200 possibly with 1st vaccines but not neutered. Either these sellers think if people pay ££ they will look after them or its a massive pisstake .

And there's a huge number of Bengal crosses . They are specialised cats but they seem to be the new Husky of the Cat World .

Steps off Gumtree .

There are two cats on the CP website that are calling to me .......

I looked into the pane of glass thing and was so much money. In the end we made a hole ourself in the conservatory wall and added a small tunnel cat flap.
