Taken in a kitty in a sorry state - advice welcomed

I've just taken in a kitty whose human mum is chronically unwell. She is now moving into social housing.
He is in a bit of a sorry state; seems underweight, has flea bite scabs near tail, flea dirt in ears and generally not looking his best. He seems in good spirits although obv taking time to adapt to a new environment.
I am planning to slowly refeed him (small regular meals), flea & worm. Groom and possibly bathe? in due course. Any advice esp on refeeding would be welcome.
I will of course be able to consult my local vetinary practice after the Bank Hol, but knowing there are many v experienced cat parents here, wanted to ask this wonderful community.
Thankyou

Just read you're thread. He's gorgeous, bet you're in love with him already. What's his name?

If you decide to get his ears checked, they can also worm, flea treat. Might cost you a bit more, but saves you having to battle with him while he's adjusting to a new life and building up his confidence with you. As others have said, try and keep him on original diet inititally. He should be ok with cat milk, which has lots of calories so a little once a day between meals won't do any harm.

Oh bless him. It sounds as though he needs to see an actual vet too though - for general MOT, teeth and ear check.

Oh wow he’s gorgeous.
I’ve never bathed a cat - I value my skin too much 😁. Our cat had bad ear wax which we thought was ear mites at one stage, best to get it checked out by a vet.

Thanks again for your comments, advice and support.

Little one started a new chapter today. A friend offered him a permanent home, she is an experienced cat mum & he will have been to the vet by now for full health check & whatever needs doing. Love a happy ending!
