Made a rookie mistake and new rescue kitten spending his first day under the sofa

I have a large crate to keep the kitten in so my existing cat and kitten can be kept apart to begin with.

I opened the carrier in the living room and my kitten ran under the sofas and is still there 8 hours later.

I am worried as he hasn't eaten anything since the shelter last fed him.

I have tried putting the food bowl close by but still not touched it.

Any advice would be appreciated

It's a cute name and easy to call, too.

I was coming on to add some advice as I had a similar thing happen with one of my cats but I can see it is all sorted now Grin

I like the name Benny.

agnurse · 14/04/2019 16:53

Him nice boy! Him cute little guy. He reminds me of our Gatsby.

Not totally out of the woods yet.

Bringing Benny home was much harder work than bringing moon home.
Benny spent Saturday afternoon under the sofa. Most of Sunday stuck in the tv unit. And is currently fast asleep under the kitchen cupboards where he managed to get to at 3am by ramming open the hatch from the living room.

Will forgive him as he is beautiful and had a bad start

Is that the other cat in the background?

bentneckwine1 · 15/04/2019 13:27

Not the other cat as not introduced them yet.

I spoke to the foster family for advice and he said that he wasn't much of a hider with them..
He suggested that i sit on the floor in kitchen and rattle the biscuit box.

Benny keeps coming out then dashing back so at least we know he can get out again

When my cat hid when he first arrived home, I just got on with my daily routine so he could get used to the sounds and smells of a new place. It took him a while to feel really comfortable but he soon came out of his shell.

bentneckwine1 · 15/04/2019 21:10

I called the foster family for advice and he asked how Benny and moon were getting along. I told them that i hadn't introduced them yet as thought too soon.

However he told me that because the kittens had no human interaction until 8 weeks old Benny had superglued himself to their older cat and that moon might be the best thing for him.

So i let moon in and sat with my heart thumping feeding them tiny stips of chicken and it was like the nursery rhyme the pied piper!
Just saw this tiny face appear who realised moon was there and followed him from under the kitchen cupboards

What a great update! How has moon reacted?

Will await photos of the soon to be best buds😊

bentneckwine1 · 15/04/2019 21:27

Moon was a bit bemused and only noticed Benny right at last minute then stood at the kitchen door to wait

Benny reminds me of our Gatsby who we also adopted as a kitten.

It's quite possible that Moon will learn to enjoy his new companion. When we first brought Gatsby home Biggie had a WTF? look on his face, but Jayda took to him right away. Once Biggie discovered that he was not being replaced, he did okay.

It used to be ever so funny because all three cats would follow Daddy around. Biggie practically worships Daddy, Gatsby was a baby so he was curious about everything, and I can only conclude that Jayda thought if they were both going, there must be food or something in the offing and she wanted her fair share Grin

bentneckwine1 · 16/04/2019 03:31

The kitten was bought as a companion for moon who was grieving our dog who was 15.

Moon had a mutual love affair with star and went off his food when she dird.

Awe this is very cute. I hope they become friends

agnurse · 16/04/2019 05:57

Moon looks to be a very nice boy. I hope he will adapt soon to having a new friend.

bentneckwine1 · 16/04/2019 06:00

Moon is used to sharing his home with a dog. However there has been no reaction from him to all the crying and wailing other than continue to wag his tail.

So looking positive.

Thanks again for everybody help

Oh is Moon going to be another Grandpa Mason??

Love the photo of Benny thinking whether he should jump up or not.
