Pet insurance for cat with possible renal disease

Hi,

Wondering if anyone has any advice on a cat insurance query.

At the start of this year, my cat insurance came up for renewal. The company said that because my two cats were turning eight, the premium for each would double.

“Hah” I thought, “I’m not having that”. So I shopped around and began the process of changing to a new company.

Then one cat began showing signs of illness, and within a few days had to be pts because of advanced kidney failure. Of course we then took the other cat (sister of the first cat) to the vet to get checked out.

So by the time the new policy came to be finalised, I had to declare that my remaining cat was being tested for renal disease. And the company said they wouldn’t cover anything to do with her kidneys.

She’s now getting tests at the vet, is likely to be in stage 1/2 of renal disease, and the vet wants to do an X-Ray and ultrasound to check for kidney stones, at a cost of £400. Which the insurance won’t cover. Nor will they cover the renal diet that she’s likely to need from now on.

Does anyone have any experience of this situation? Are there any companies which might cover us, albeit at an increased premium? Or have I scuppered us completely in my attempts to save cash?

Thanks for any advice

Sorry about both your cats Flowers I don't know if they'll cover you but have you looked at Petplan? They're more expensive than a lot of others but have a good reputation so might cover you where others didn't? They covered my cat with renal disease but I was already insured when he developed it.

Brought by many have a insurance plan covering pre-existing conditions.

No, there aren't any insurance companies who will cover you now for this condition unfortunately. Even Bought By Many state the animal can't have had any treatment/medication/advice relating to the condition for three months prior to the new policy being taken out and if the animal has further problems relating to the condition within two years then cover will drop to £500.

Thanks all, will look at Petplan and Bought By Many but sounds like we’re skooshed.

Appreciate the responses.
