Freshly neutered cats - how much licking is too much?

I do not want to have to wrestle two pissed off cats into a cone of shame each. Just how much no-balls-there licking is too much??

We never put ours in cones at all. I suppose constant licking would be bad. What are they doing?

Licking each other's behinds 🙄 which I suspect wouldn't be solved by a cone !

They are being pretty good, I've stopped them licking a few times but it isn't constant. I really have no plans to try and wrestle them into a cone unless it's absolutely necessary! I didn't check just how much licking was acceptable before I left with them.

They seem pretty perky which is good.

I've never put a male cat in a cone either after neutering. The incision is really very tiny and they don't have stitches. Could you separate them temporarily if they're licking very enthusiastically? It's possible they are just cleaning each other because they smell of the vet's and will stop when they are satisfied they smell of home again.

Thanks :)

I am reassured that I don't need to worry! My last male cat didn't have a cone either so I was a bit surprised. In fact, my last female didn't either. I'll just stop them when I notice.

Our tom was neutered a couple of weeks ago. He licked for a couple of days on and off then was no longer interested. He was pretty much back to normal the next day.
