Actual fish with heads and eyes in cat soup - pic

I opened some tuna cat soup last night for Matt and was horrified to find three actual whole fish in there, with heads and eyes. One fish had been decapitated. It made my stomach heave. I can never look at fish on the fishmonger stall in the supermarket.
I gave him the rest of the soup but not the fish.
Is this what tuna look like? Am I being a wuss? I've given him thus soup before and never seen whole fish in it!

Aww poor cat would have loved them!

They’re minging beggars.

NotDavidTennant · 06/02/2019 12:41

But surely you spent more to looking at the fish heads when you were picking them out than if you'd just chucked them in the bowl and let the cat eat them?

Andtheskyisgrey · 06/02/2019 12:43

This thread is hilarious. And there is a particularly good juxtaposition with the next thread down in active threads 🤣

To be fair, I think I'd get a bit of a shock if I opened a packet of cat soup and actual fishy fish came out! You normally only get flakes and mushy bits.

My cat would probably think that all his birthdays and Christmasses had come at once though! Where did you get it from?

minglemoo · 06/02/2019 12:51

😂😂😂😂😂

Papergirl1968 · 06/02/2019 12:54

Morrison's, Freaky.
Glad I've amused you all anyway Grin
I've dropped my plan to sue Purina for millions of pounds in compensation for my trauma!

I won't buy that particular flavour again!

Are you eating cat soup?
Why is cat soup even a thing? How do they hold the soup spoon?

Hoppinggreen · 06/02/2019 12:56

You need a vegan cat

greenelephantscarf · 06/02/2019 12:58

cat soup is great if the cat tends not to drink enough otherwise.

BlankTimes · 06/02/2019 13:00

But the cat needs things in his diet that you may find gross. Those anchovies are a source of protein, vitamins and minerals for him. Don't throw them away, tip the catfood out of the sachet and don't look at it. Don't let your dislikes affect your cat's health.

Mine love a bit of raw turkey mince and raw chicken legs with the bones in which they also eat. I think that's gross but still feed it to them.
NB raw bones are good but cooked bones can splinter in the gut and cause serious problems.

Calvinsmam · 06/02/2019 13:02

To be fair,
I’m actually surprised they put real whole fish in.

I was under the impression that cat food was all the scrapings off the bottom of the trawler boats.

ChesterGreySideboard · 06/02/2019 13:05

We have Applaws, that has whole anchovies in it too.

I remember when I was sat at the airport in Tokyo, the man sat opposite us went and bought something from a vending machine.
It was peanuts and dried anchovies in a bag.

steppemum · 06/02/2019 13:07

We used to buy trout to eat (for us) from the local trout farm.

If you asked, they would give you yesterdays unsold ones for the cat. We would get two, whole fish about 12" long. we put them on the floor in the utility room one for each cat and shut the door.

They started at the head and ate the lot, skin, bones, eyes, etc etc, except for the tail fin.
They then spent about 3 hours washing themselves and about 24 hours sleeping looking very fat, happy and smug.

Our vet always said they had the healthiest mouths of any of his cat customers, and it was due to them regularly eating real food (fish, mice etc) as well as tinned.

It is a fish, why on earth woudl you think it was not appropriate for a cat?!

eurochick · 06/02/2019 13:09

You do know humans eat whole fish too don't you? Someone upthread has already mentioned it - whitebait. I can't believe you are being so squeamish about cat food!

steppemum · 06/02/2019 13:09

naturally cats get most of their liquid from their food and don't really drink much.

Dried cat food is not the best type of food for them for this reason, as they don't naturally drink much at all.

Feed them wet

(or whole fish Grin)

Tinty · 06/02/2019 13:14

Goodness me, don't tell Matt he probably won't talk purr to you for the rest of the week when he finds out you spooned the best bit out.

I am now going to buy my Dcats some cat soup. They will think it looks yummy.

Badcat666 · 06/02/2019 14:49

So... a sachet of cat food that says it contains anchovies actually contains them and you are horrified?

FFS.. cats are meant to eat every part of an animal or fish. Not the bits you like the look of.

I'm even looking at raw food diets if I get kittens in the future, they even sell mice and baby chicks you can to feed to cats! I think that's AWESOME!

Badcat666 · 06/02/2019 14:50

mmmm whitebait... drools a bit

Might get some sprats next Tesco order (other supermarkets are available) for me and the kitties... (I cook mine!)

Papergirl1968 · 06/02/2019 18:51

I hadn't a clue what anchovies were! I didn't know they were fish.
Cat soup is useful when Matt, who is rather rotund, has eaten loads of big meals but is still peckish.
Ok, I give in, I'll still get him this flavour, I'll just not look at the contents!
🤦🏼‍♀️

My DH was tasked with going out to get a pizza, his choice I said, just make sure it is vegetarian.

He came back with a pizza topped with anchovies. 'These anchovies' he said 'smell of fish'. Apparently he thought anchovies were a type of herb.

pisspawpatrol · 06/02/2019 21:19

Mycathatesme did he mix them up with capers? I used to get capers and anchovies mixed up!

Mycathatesme · 06/02/2019 21:45

Yes, it was capers!

PCohle · 06/02/2019 23:05

This is hilarious Grin

Beetlewing · 16/02/2019 08:57

The fish heads contain taurine that is essential for cats health. We give ours whole sprats for a treat.
