My kittens STINK!

And guests have even started to comment on it. One is far worse than the other he passes wind a lot and it's awful! The vet said to worm them again so we did to no change. I have tried fortiflora which offered a small improvement but switched to regutum as it's much cheaper but doesn't seem to be helping at all. Any suggestions anyone?! We are on felix kitten they have 2 pouches each a day with dry food available.

Poster who uses Applause - I'm sure you already have but check the tins as many of their products are only "complimentary" so (if their only food) don't give the cats a fully balanced diet.

OldGrinch · 06/02/2019 08:29

They are lovely OP, second to get checked out by vet, tummy problems common in young kittens. For food good quality high meat content as PP have said. Applaws, James Well beloved and Pets at home own brand good, it is more expensive without a doubt but its worth every penny. Also the high meat content means that they eat less as it fills them up. The Zooplus website has some good offers on it.

OldGrinch · 06/02/2019 08:31

PS, if introducing new foods need to do it gradually mixed in with old food.

codenameduchess · 06/02/2019 08:31

They are gorgeous!
My two reaked when they had go-cat food as kittens, you could smell them before you saw them! We switched to whiskas kitten food and the smell disappeared. We ended up back on go-cat adult food and there's no stink problems so assume it was just the kitten one.

I'd try changing food and see if it helps. Good luck!

bellinisurge · 06/02/2019 09:09

Yep Marmitebread I only use Applaws tins as a treat.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 06/02/2019 11:58

Mr Stinky knows he stinks and just does not care. Mr Stinky's pal denies all knowledge of stink.

Kittykat93 · 06/02/2019 12:09

No advice but what lovely kitties !!!!

Wistfulthinking · 06/02/2019 14:08

We feed our cats applaws too. It was their main food as small kittens and now supplements their science plan dry food. They love it!

Badcat666 · 06/02/2019 15:24

Meat derivatives are just the bits we, as humans, don't eat or like to eat and cats are meant to eat every bit of an animal, not just the pretty meat parts we like to have in our meals. Just means the meaty bits have been derived from an animal which are fit to eat.

It might be the food contains wheat etc which cats shouldn't be eating. I switched mine to wheat free and no more farting! Funnily enough they refused to touch some of the posh "all meat" brands and one of mine kept bringing me mice until I switched back to a cheaper wheat free one. They so need to start making cat food containing mouse parts! :D

Thequaffle · 06/02/2019 15:26

My kitten started off on whiskas when I first got him (that’s what he was being fed at this “birth mums” house. I switched him to Lily’s kitchen and he not only grew into a big strong laddie but also doesn’t have the stinking gag-worthy poos he used to!

woodwaj · 06/02/2019 20:39

Last time I spoke to the vets (just before Christmas) she advised to worm again and if not change to dry food only. I'm not too keen to do that as I think theyll go mad so it looks like a change of diet might be the next option!!

They are cute. Just so stinky!!

Can anyone tell me if wainwrights wet food is any good?

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 06/02/2019 22:14

That's a pets at home own brand I think. Certainly better than a lot of them

woodwaj · 06/02/2019 22:35

I was also looking at Arden grange dry food or would you stick to wainwrights for both?

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 06/02/2019 22:39

Mine liked the AVA kitten dry food. Is grain free with a reasonable amount of meat

dementedpixie · 06/02/2019 22:42

Wainwrights dry seems to have a lot of rice

ifonly4 · 07/02/2019 14:21

My two aren't too bad on ordinary Felix pouches (the cheaper ones) but they stink on AGAIL and it also upsets one of their tummies. As others have said, it's worth trying some different cat food.

Love the photos, Mr Stinkies is a cross of my two boys in the face!

sweetkitty · 07/02/2019 22:47

Definitely food

The better quality the food the less you need to feed them.

Ours smell like butter and their trays never stink

woodwaj · 08/02/2019 07:51

The regutum seems to be kicking in! Their tray has smelt much better over the last 24 hours. Going to go to pets at home tomorrow and buy some new food! I really appreciate all the advice it's been really helpful. I've already took them off agail and saw a slight improvement!

We're having the same problems. They're on the same food as when we got them - Purina Kitten. They still stink to high heaven though and are constantly farting! They're two boys and have both been neutered and wormed recently.

woodwaj · 12/02/2019 19:15

@crookshankspotter have a look on viovet and try regutum it seems to be working here. And I'm currently switching over to the AVA dry food.

thatsmyspace · 12/02/2019 19:19

This was happening to my kitten, changed he's dry food to burgess and he's been absolutely fine since

ThunderStorms · 14/02/2019 16:21

Butchers is the best cheap wet food

Natures menu is nice, but expensive

Zooplus have good brands (mac's, GranataPet etc)

EachandEveryone · 15/02/2019 00:12

Arden Grange is a great one and its usually cheaper on Amazon Prime. Sainsburys own brand grain free wet is a good price.

CrookshanksPotter · 16/02/2019 19:14

Thank you @woodwaj I've picked up some Ava and we're slowly switching off. Poss tmi but their poos seem to be a lot better and I haven't noticed them farting as much either.
