He has swallowed about a metre of ribbon. Probably last night. He's been acting strange all day, but just coughed up about 30cm of the ribbon.
My poor baby. I'm at home because the kids are in bed.

He's doing well. They removed over a metre of ribbon from his stomach but they got it before any damage was done. I suspect he will be getting very sorry for himself. I'm so glad we found him coughing some of it up, otherwise we wouldn't have known until it was too late.

How on earth did he manage to swallow so much with out choking!

Aww, that's good news all round, especially for lovely fluffy Sidney SmileHe should be home in time for his birthday. Just don't wrap any pressies in ribbon.
My friend who is a vet tells me around Christmas she often has to operate on kitties who have had a nice chew at the tinsel, such any easy thing to happen.

I'm sorry you didn't manage to insure him yet. Hopefully it'll be much cheaper than the expected £2000. We never insured ours (farm colony cats with no owner but I liked to feed/worm them) but when one was hit by a car, instead of having her euthanised (as was usual for wild feral cats) we decided to take a financial hit and she had her leg completely rebuilt. It cost £450. She was the only tame one so we thought we'd give her a chance. She now lives with us and is our baby. The vets were very sympathetic and tried to keep the costs minimal because we didn't have insurance.

Oh god. Just remember I've had a ribbon lying around for cheddar to play with!

I cant stess enough. Please, please, please dont let cats play with any type of string. The OP and I have learned the hard (and expensive) way and its horrible. My cat was on deaths door eating Christmas present ribbon. All her organs shut down.

He's home. He is feeling sad but he will be okay.

Thank you everyone for waiting with me last night, I was very upset and you made it better.

And yes, we have got rid of any potential similar hazards, please do the same if you have any.

The litter tray is great for a handhold when you need one. Had loads of support with my pairs various ailments.

Glad to hear he’s ok!!! hopefully he’ll recover quickly and be back to his normal self soon.
If it makes you feel any better last year my cat swallowed some dental floss (genuine mistake from a guest) - I saw both ends hanging out of his mouth and tried to get it off him but I’ve never seen a cat swallow anything so quickly or determinedly!!!! He ended up at the vets having injections to make him vomit it up before it could cause an obstruction- he really wasn’t happy during that process !
I’d like to think that he’d learned his lesson but no - he is still obsessed by thin wriggly things and will try and eat any bits of string or cotton lying around.... on the plus side this has made me much less slovenly in my housekeeping 😂😂😂
