Getting cat wee smell out of carpet

Our cat likes to wee right at the corner of the litter tray, and sometimes it goes over the edge by accident. We have puppy pads down around the tray to protect the carpet. Somehow, a horrible cat wee smell has got into the carpet and the room his litter tray is in stinks. Like eye burning cat pee smell. We tried cat wee smell removing spray, that did nothing so then 1001 carpet spray (usually works!) no joy. Washed with bio washing powder. When that also didn’t work used a rug doctor type carpet cleaner. Smelt a bit better but not gone. (All this was over about a week/10 days not all in one day btw!) Have aired the room, taken out as much furniture as possible.. still smells.
Is there anything else we can try?

Odour Out from Lakeland: works for me.

Urine Off. Spraying the area is useless, you need to pour it on. Absolutely saturate it. When dry you might have to repeat but you should be able to notice it getting better.

Maybe get a tray with higher sides if you can?

Similar story here. Portia used to pee on the landing just outside her tray and even though we used all of the above there is still a hint of pee. Having said that it IS fading.
I'm afraid we are planning on getting new carpet as I think it's in the underlay.

What is that?

WorkStressMax · 12/01/2019 13:02

It’s a kind of sit in litter tray. They go in through the hole at the top, then sit with their head poking out the hole and wee/poo. DCat not impressed.

How do you train your cat to use one of those?

Singlenotsingle · 12/01/2019 13:06

Dr Beckmann - £3.50 at Tesco's. Magic!

Solution Stain and Odour Remover for Cats, 4 Litre [[https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B005GO2VX4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_JxEoCbT81DWXR?tag=mumsnetforum-21 simple solution]] is great and cheap on amazon, as it’s £10 for a small bottle in our local pet store and £13.50 for a 4 litre jug online. You spray it straight on carpet and furniture and also can soak washable items in it before putting in laundry machine.

Whoops sorry for messy link. Try again here

Toddlerteaplease · 12/01/2019 13:13

Yes. Dr Beckman with the brush on top. It's brilliant for sick Staines.

Vinorosso74 · 12/01/2019 13:26

Biological laundry liquid. The enzymes break down the smell.

Blot the area with kitchen roll, let it dry, sprinkle some bicarbonate of soda, leave for a while and then hoover up.
