Can I tell you about Ares?

Ares was found horrifically injured in Pakistan and was cared for by the amazing Todd's Welfare Society. His injuries healed and, as he was left blind, he was going to live at their sanctuary in Pakistan. There was something about him that really touched me and I decided to sponsor him. Ares loved his kitty friend Carol and they were inseparable.

Ares died unexpectedly in the early hour of Friday morning. He was checked on Thursday night and was fine and was found dead in his bed on Friday morning. I may never have met him but I'm heartbroken. One consolation is that he'd lived at the sanctuary and knew love for the last year of his life.

RIP lovely Ares, run free at the Rainbow Bridge and know that you mattered and that you were loved xx

Thanks both. I feel daft being so upset for a cat I'd never met but there really was something about him.

RIP Ares. I sponsored a cat at my local cat sanctuary and he died suddenly too, I was surprised at how upset I felt (given that the cat was quite elderly and I had never actually met him) but I think we become emotionally attached to them and their stories don't we (my sponsor cat was dumped in a box at the end of the road near the sanctuary)

Oh bless him, how can people do that?

TWS offered to refund my sponsorship money but I wouldn't dream of doing that so it's been transferred to Fudge Jr, a beautiful girl who nobody wanted to sponsor, let alone adopt.

How lovely of you to sponsor him and another cat when he's no longer here, you will have made such a difference to his life (and FudgeJr) I just wish that there were more people like you in the world and ideally we would never have to see the terrible suffering that some cats go through.

It is always the one's that face the worst of what humanity can give that seem to give so much back too.

Thank you for your kind words fenneltea. When I saw Ares looking so sad (he had the same look as Harry when he broke his jaw, although Ares had much worse injuries) I wanted to help him.

The really sad thing is his girlfriend Carol is now on her own. She's paralysed and so will live out her days at the sanctuary and the two of them were inseparable.

That's lovely for Fudge Jr but awww...poor Carol missing her friend!
