Ok so my poor baby got taken in a road accident last week. We are all still really saddened by her sudden leaving. I called a rescue centre the day after i lost my baby and enquired after a pair of black kitties. They have never lived anywhere other than the shelter and are about 6 months old. The shelter said they get overlooked as they are black. So now I see i had a missed call from them today so I'm thinking we have been matched! But now I don't now what to do!
I can't resist a furry face if I go to meet them but I'm also not sure if it was too knee-jerk to call for them. Bug if I don't go it could be ages until we are matched again! 2 kids one 8 the other 12 plus a dog and another 3 yr old cat makes us hard to match with! Is also be keen to keep the new babies as house cats for as long as possible. Argh what should i do?

Just as a side note this yr had been particularly shit with one thing and another. And we could do with something positive happening for us. Plus my dd's hamster this weekend. Would 2 kitties be good?

I would certainly give the centre a call back, at least!

Santaisfastasleepatlast · 30/12/2018 22:52

You surrender to your fate op.
Nowt better than 2 black kittens imo.

Mossop17 · 30/12/2018 22:52

I will do but I don't know what to say!

Gimme gimme gimme!!
Nuff said!!

Two black cats is brilliant. I could tell mine apart but no one else could. I had to write instructions for the cattery on how to do it! Getting a new cat was the best thing I could ha e done after Maia died. It helped fill the hole she left and helped heal the heartache.

Pixel99 · 30/12/2018 22:59

When can I collect them? Sorry about your DCat and DHamster though. Centres will be keen to see some wonderful kittens given a loving home over the Christmas period. I hope it all works out..... not forgetting a picture or two please.

Pixel99 · 30/12/2018 23:02

Sorry Happy New Year. I hope you have a better and happier 2019.

Mossop17 · 30/12/2018 23:12

Aw thanks pixel I've never been one to say good riddance to a yr but we had very tragic news in January and have been waiting for the year to be over ever since.

Work stress for both me and dh, uni work troubles for dh, challenging issues with youngest dd, my d cat going then the hamster it's been a rough ride!

Only you can decide what’s right. When we lost old girl cat I was devastated but the house felt so empty. I would have gone out and got a cat the day after we lost her. But we had a holiday planned. Good job as it made we wait a little bit. (Not long!)
You may meet them and not “click”. You may fall instantly and completely head over heels! How do the rest of the family feel? Would you pop over and see without telling them and just see how you feel?

MillicentBeauchamp · 31/12/2018 11:32

My cat has just died and I am seriously thinking of immediately getting a rescue cat. There are so many animals who need a home and it would be a lovely thing to do - definitely go for it if you feel up to it

ImNotKitten · 31/12/2018 21:13

How are you going to keep them safe given the road you live on has already proven too dangerous for your previous cat?

showmeyourgroovymoves · 01/01/2019 08:25

I have recently got 5 month old brothers from a rescue centre (never lived anywhere else and found dumped) and they have bought joy and recovery to our house after a shit year.

Ring them Smile

Mossop17 · 01/01/2019 08:45

I called the rescue and declined the pair of kitties. It was hard but the right thing to do for them. Tying to keep 2 in as house cats to keep them safe when the mutt goes out was a headache too far especially as they were both black! Will be sticking with 1 cat for now. She's an indoor and outdoor cat. Each time she goes out I'm so grateful when she comes back in.

What a lovely situation to be in - do give them a call, black cats are hard to rehome I'm told, and your house sounds perfect for them. Start the new year on a positive note! I lost the mum cat unexpectedly in October to a very aggressive cancer and now her son has just (Dec 28th) been diagnosed with something similar so am looking at losing him within the next couple of months. I will be contacting the rescue centre to see who most needs a home - what with all this vet nursing experience I've had to gain, I might as well take on a geriatric or poorly kitty and leave the cute babies and the 'normals' to others.
Good luck, and please let us know how it all works out, hearing others' good news will make me feel better..

GMFLondon · 01/01/2019 08:53

Just saw your update, came in same time as my post - sorry to hear you declined them, but totally understand your reasons.

whatamidoingwithmylife · 01/01/2019 08:55

Poor kitties, I hope someone takes them soon but probably unlikely if they've already been there so long.

After I lost my first cat I immediately adopted and it was a good decision. After losing the second cat many years later I waited months and then took in a rescue Ragdoll. I felt they'd pushed her on me and were very keen on an immediate decision (they text and called me very soon after I left to make a decision). It was a mistake I think - I've had her a few months now and she's a chuffing nightmare and isn't improving.
It's best to go with your instincts on these things and I wish I'd listened to mine as this cat will eventually drive me crazy I think.

SoupDragon · 01/01/2019 10:24

Poor kitties :(

I adopted two black kittens in November. It wasn't a problem keeping them in at all whilst the dog goes out. They do go out for short periods now but don't have free access to outdoors so I'm still stopping them from going out on every occasion the dog does.

SoupDragon · 01/01/2019 10:25

My black kittens were a ray of sunshine in a year that saw me lose my cat and my dad.

Toddlerteaplease · 01/01/2019 10:32

You could look at a breed rescue, persian or ragdoll. They are happy to be indoor cats.

whatamidoingwithmylife · 01/01/2019 10:37

@Toddlerteaplease - maybe not Ragdolls. I made that mistake and she's a pain in the arse 24hrs a day. Not at all happy to be an indoor cat (even though she always has been) and has boundless amounts of energy which means she has to be entertained constantly or she'll start damaging furniture/carpets/my face and feet.

Toddlerteaplease · 01/01/2019 11:14

Persians are so much better than Ragdolls anyway. Mine go into the garden and that's that!
