How to stop my cat destroying from destroying Christmas.

Hi any advice on how to stop a cat from climbing and dismantling my Christmas tree, she is a 9 month old Maine coon so rather large! I have tried so far just putting up the tree without decs so she gets bored of it, I have put oranges around the bottom of the tree (it's artificial).

My Dh says there is no point putting decs or lights on so we just leave it as it is. I have another cat who has climbed the tree but that's it, I really don't know what to do. The cats behaviour is making my Dh so angry it's really hard work.

I love my girl but her behaviour is driving my Dh mad, it's not just the tree she is very full on, I have always had cats but never a Maine coon, the Dc love her but my Dh not so much, he would not hurt her or anything it's just putting a strain on us.

Argos are doing special Christmas trees for people with cats.

She's still a baby. Of course she will destroy things. That's cats. Does your DH have anger issues. I'd be worried about someone being angry over a cats normal behaviour.

No it's nothing like that he is very kind honestly, he spent 2 whole days and nights looking for her when she was missing. The problems are setting boundaries with her, she climbs on the work tops, she wakes us up at 5am scratching the carpet and meowing really loudly.

We all love her and believe me she would be last out the door. I'm just trying to keep the peace and train her in a cat friendly kind way but I don't know how.

Don't let her in the room with it. Or use unbreakable baubles.

We have a motion activated thing that lets out a puff of air to deter our cats from going on a particular shelf where we have some expensive models. That might work, or you could put tin foil around the bottom of the tree, I heard cats don't like standing on it. It worked to deter ours from jumping on the counter.

We put our tree up in Sunday-no lights or decorations. DD put some decorations on this morning and I caught our lad attacking a polar bear (to be fair it was in a prime target spot) a robin and silvery glitter bauble were also removed.
I'm more worried he may chew the light cable so no lights as yet.

Use green garden wire to secure baubles to the tree. My cats, and toddler, have not managed to get any off Grin
