Kitten just ate a load of baked beans

Kids had had baked beans for breakfast - made the error of not clearing the plates before dealing with the squabbling in another room. Came back to find 5 month old kitten on the table gobbling said beans upShock.

He has a sensitive stomach ( can’t eat thrive cat food for example) but has no sense and steals any food he can find! Am dreading what I’m going to come home to this lunchtime ...

I’ve never had a food thief cat before so it keeps taking me by surprise - he will literally eat the food out your hand! Will even steal despite having a dish full of cat food Confused

I have a food thief.
I don't envy the litter tray you will get from beans.
Qcat will systematically perforate any and all plastic and foil packs.
Eat any glue of mail or parcels.
Steal cheese and scoff it all.
She stole an Austrian smoked cheese sausage last week and is still farting.

If you’ve ruled out worms and thyroid problems, then he’s either just greedy or feels insecure about his food supply, and thinks he has to grab everything available immediately in case there is no more coming.
You may find a noxious offering in his litter tray after the baked beans, or a heap of vomit on the carpet, and you should make sure he has free access to plenty of water, as the salt in the tomato sauce will be a strain on his kidneys and need lots of water for him to excrete the sodium load.
Make sure you’re feeding the correct amounts for his age, give meals at very regular predictable times, and clear all human leavings away before he gets his paws on them!

He is fully wormed and had a vet check the other day. The vets commented he is extremely greedy. He has dry food always on offer and is fed plenty of wet 3 x a day ( he does always have water!). He just seems to always want to eat what we are eating.

My two adore baked beans. Though they only ever get the juice. I've also discovered that cheddar likes pasta, she also is incredibly sensitive. Had no issues yet....!

Toddlerteaplease · 23/11/2018 11:14

See my 'I'm under attack post'!

Inarightpickleandchutney · 23/11/2018 11:15

I need to see the kitten to make an accurate assessment Grin

My dcats eat vegetables.
The arent very welcome to sleep on beds after that...

My cat raided a large cauliflower cheese last night. Bits of cauliflower all over the kitchen floor. Nothing wrong with his food supply. He's just greedy and of a firm belief that he is entitled to human food (takes a seat at the table at meal times and helps himself to morsels)

Loyaultemelie · 23/11/2018 13:12

I have one bomb proof girl who you could set a roast beef beside and she wouldn't steal it. Her digestive system is also perfect. Our other boy is a greedy sod and although his name is Franky he is fondly and widely known as "Fartycat" and despite being on eyewateringly expensive prescription food would steal the eye out of your head and was spotted enjoying pizza last night

Thanks all - weirdly litter tray was better than usual so no adverse effects!

I'm lucky in that my DCat isn't too bad with things like this... unless it's yoghurt. You will then be subjected to kitten eyes, the odd paw raised to intercept your spoon's journey and eventually a little nose in your face trying to lick the spoon itself.

Toddlerteaplease · 25/11/2018 17:01

Every cat I've ever had loved yoghurt. Heads would be straight in the pits. But neither Snorg, Fatty or Cheddar will touch it. Weird!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 25/11/2018 17:13

Harry's never shown any interest in yoghurt but he likes Haagen Dazs...

OlennasWimple · 25/11/2018 17:16

One of mine used to lick the sauce off baked beans and leave them on the plate - they dry out very quickly when the sauce has gone!

EachandEveryone · 26/11/2018 11:19

Yes Haagen Daz is popular in my house too. They fight over the kid. They are not interested in any other human food so I’m lucky really.

Snowwontbelong · 26/11/2018 11:45

Slight deviation but ddog had chicken Tikka Mossalla for breakfast yesterday.
With a poppadom!!
Grin

Toddlerteaplease · 26/11/2018 12:03

I bet the next walk was a bit grim after eating that!!

Snowwontbelong · 26/11/2018 12:09

Went to work and left her to dh!!

Ollivander84 · 26/11/2018 12:11

Mine is obsessed with baked beans. No ill effects ever noticed
