Someone's dog chased him in the field behind our house. He tried to squirm under my friend's gate and got stuck and the dog got him and killed him.

The kids are devastated.

His sister is looking for him.
DH (who used to swear at him for being suck a pain in the arse, then allow him to sleep on his shoulder/chest etc) is very quiet.

Not a good day.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your lovely boy.

Ollivander84 · 18/11/2018 22:23

I'm so so sorry

recklessruby · 18/11/2018 22:34

I m so sorry OP he looks a lovely boy. What a shock for you all. I wish people who let their dogs off lead would make sure they had proper recall xx

DrMadelineMaxwell · 18/11/2018 22:46

No idea who the owner was from DD's description. Yes, she said that he was calling the dog off but it wasn't coming until the owner physically got him.

The police have said that they are only interested if the pet didn't come when called (which it didn't and I've told them that) or if it was incited to go for the cat in the first place. No proof one way or the other of that, but I imagine it's a case of the cat being sighted by the dog and being chased rather than urged to get it.

If only my friend's gate was a few cm taller he'd have got through to safety. But it wasn't to be.

The police have changed their mind and are going to put the attack on record and will get in touch to speak to us, maybe DD, within 48 hours. It's not going to help or achieve something but I'm glad they aren't ignoring it.

Oh god that’s so so awful. Flowers

MrsCatE · 19/11/2018 04:14

So sorry DrMadeline such a horrible way to lose your beloved pet. I hope you get some follow up from the police. What a vile dog owner. Flowers

Xuli · 19/11/2018 07:37

I'm glad to hear the police are taking it more seriously. What kind of horrible person can walk away from that?

Wolfiefan · 19/11/2018 07:46

It won’t bring your handsome cat back but they can force the dog owner to muzzle their dog etc. Dogs must be under control in public. This clearly wasn’t. Awful. Just awful.

I'm so sorry. I don't usually comment on bereavement threads because oftentimes it's the first and only post from a user on TLT and to be honest I find the threads really hard going, having suffered losses myself, but you are a regular and that story is just horrific and a worst nightmare Flowers. I don't know what else to say.

FedUpWithBriiiiiick · 19/11/2018 10:35

I'm so sorry @DrMadelineMaxwell for your loss. We lost our DCat last week suddenly, and it is a real shock Thanks

keepingbees · 19/11/2018 11:09

I'm so sorry that must have been horrific Thanks
Do any of your neighbours have cctv? I really hope the police can do something. That is an out of control dog and is surely dangerous.

Otterseatpuffinsdontthey · 19/11/2018 11:16

Flowers Sorry about your lovely cat Flowers
This is one, of several reasons, I don't have a cat Sad

hartof · 19/11/2018 11:29

speakingtruthfully · 19/11/2018 14:38

I'm so sorry to read this , what a beautiful boy , I can't imagine how you all feel right now ThanksThanks

ifonly4 · 19/11/2018 14:49

OP, so sorry to hear this, it must be awful for all of you. Even if the dog walker changes his route, I'm sure he'll be out walking nearby so he might be seen again. Getting a photo or knowing where he walks back to, will help the police.

Try and hold onto the fact that during his time with you gave him a lovely home where he was well looked after.

FrankieChips · 19/11/2018 16:12

That is horrific! I'm so sorry. People really have to train their dogs to come back on command. It can be done as @wolfiefan has stated. My friend has a very well trained dog who follows commands to the letter. Very very sorry.

YeahILoveSummer · 19/11/2018 16:15

So sorry for your loss I can't even imagine what your going through. He sounds as if he had a loving home with your family and was a special part of it. Sending hugs ThanksThanks

Plump82 · 19/11/2018 19:01

I understand how you are feeling. We lost a kitten to a dog attack, albeit many years ago.

I’m so sorry. You must be devastated.
