How do I know if my cat is doing a mating call or if he's trying to scare a cat off?

We've had a bloody visitor through our cat flap this morning, caught it leaving!
It's the same cat I caught with mine in the garden a few days ago, where they were face to face mine making a right racket. That's why I'd gone out. The other one couldn't have looked less bothered!
Did I interrupt a mating dance?
Mine seems to be prowling the house now he must know it's been in. But he's been on edge past few days.

I caught him and that cat doing same thing a couple of months ago.

I don't want him stressed it cost me £££ last time he was.

What do I do? I've locked the flap for now.

Also it was raining and thundering when I caught it so maybe was looking for a bolt hole. Hope he hasn't found my cats house outside!

Any ideas?

Only the female yowls while looking for a mate as far as I know.

Hecksonaplane · 27/10/2018 09:41

I thought that too but I found an article that suggested males could too in answering the female.

Is he an entire male?

Is your cat neutered? Maybe get a microchip cat flap and then other cats can't get in

Allergictoironing · 27/10/2018 10:21

We had a new un-neutered tom join the neighborhood earlier this year, and he spent months patrolling up and down everyone's back gardens very loudly proclaiming his presence. Things have settled down now & tbh haven't seen him for a couple of months, and the other local cats have started to return, so either a) he's settled in, b) he's been neutered or c) he's no longer in the area. But the noise was VERY loud, and definitely sounded like a challenge to other cats.

Yes he's neutered.

Yeah think ill have to change the flap, just need him to relax in his own home.

This cat has been a pest in our garden for a couple of months, it seems to be getting brave. Clearly not scared of my cat! Who incidentally it huge!

Yep the little bugger has just been back! Mine went mad at the window and it ran away.
