I want to donate some money to a cat charity ...

My beloved ginger boy was killed by a car a few weeks ago, and I want to make a donation in his memory. I have already given £100 to Cats Protection, but would also like to support a small localised charity which could use a modest donation to save the life of a few cats, with no wasted money. Any ideas?

Does it have to be in the UK?

claraschu · 02/09/2018 19:16

No- anything worthwhile would suit me.

www.panthera.org/
There's only something like 3700 wild tigers left.

The Ginger House Cat Rescue is an amazing tiny charity in SW London which rescues & rehabilitates unwanted cats (not just ginger cats). Just 1 woman runs it so she is always looking for donations

claraschu · 02/09/2018 19:20

I will think about Panthera, but I would really like a small localised charity with very low overheads.

Stepping Stone Rescue. Search on Facebook. I think this is what you are looking for.

www.newstartcatrescue.org.uk Is local to me, volunteer run.

Sorry about the loss of your boy; this is a lovely thing to do in his memory.

Vinorosso74 · 02/09/2018 19:29

I follow Ginger House Cat Rescue (They just had a kitten arrive in an ambulance tonight) and would vote for them. You could look on Catchat for one close to you? SNARL who are trying to trace the UK cat killer?

Vinorosso74 · 02/09/2018 19:29

Posted too soon. So sorry to hear you lost your boy Flowers

Animal Rescue and Care in Twickenham is a wonderful local charity helping out cats and other small furries.

IlPorcupinoNilSodomyEst · 02/09/2018 19:31

Very sorry to hear about your boy, heart breaking. Depends where you are but I love Thames Valley Animal Welfare, tvaw.org.uk, ladies who foster cats in their garden houses. We've had all our 8 cats over 25 years from them

Carvoeiro cat charity in Portugal rescue and look after lots of abandoned cats. It’s run on a shoe string and any donation would mean a huge amount to them

St Francis Persian Rescue are a tiny rescue. They could always use funds. That's where my three came from.

Allergictoironing · 02/09/2018 21:55

Rolvenden Cat Rescue is where my pair came from. One couple run it, and they tend to get the cats that other local charities can't cope with e.g. ferals, behaviour problems etc.

Icequeen01 · 02/09/2018 23:38

I would second Rolvenden, I got my two cats from there. The people who run it live in a caravan on site. Totally dedicated.

Fozzleyplum · 02/09/2018 23:41

How about Lina's Cat Rescue in Derbyshire? They do amazing work, and very thorough home checks.

Murinae · 02/09/2018 23:47

Elidor Cat rescue in Aberdare, Wales is amazing. It’s two woman pensioners and they trap and rescue so many cats and help wherever they can. One always has her spare room full of mothers and kittens. I got my two off them. If you want to donate to them they ask for donations towards their vets bills to be paid to Victoria Vets in Aberdare.

Late to the thread but this website lists most cat charities, big or small:

We adopted two kittens from New Start.

Fantastic organisation.

I want to donate some money to a cat charity ...
Murinae · 02/09/2018 23:53

Sorry just double checked it’s Eildor Cats and they have a Facebook page too

claraschu · 03/09/2018 21:45

Thank you so much for all the suggestions. I am looking at all of them and will make at least 3 more donations. I am also going to support a wildlife rescue (Tiggywinkles) in memory of all the poor little mice and rabbits he murdered over the years...

Thank you everyone-

some rescues have amazon lists you can buy stuff from. ...that might be worth checking once you have decided on one.

Wolfiefan · 03/09/2018 21:48

We also have two New Start kitties. They do amazing work.
Our first two came from Katz Castle in Surrey. Also an amazing charity.
Sorry for your loss.

Vinorosso74 · 03/09/2018 21:49

I'm sure those donations will be most appreciated.
It's amazing how many small rescues there are out there. Sad there are so many animals in need but heartwarming so many people want to help.
