Neighbour's garden and cat deterrents

I have a very nervy rescue cat who is shy. The one thing she loved was sitting in our garden on her chair or relaxing under our garden table. I know everyone says this but she honestly never ever left our garden, probably because she is so shy.

I noticed a month ago she has stopped going out completely and is even more nervous and timid. I've since heard that my next door neighbour (who dislikes all wildlife) has been telling everyone that she's put cat deterrents in her garden to deter cats and something to stop birds and hasn't had a single cat or bird since. We live in terraced houses with small gardens so do you think it's possible whatever she has done could be upsetting my little cat even though she is next door and has anyone any ideas what she might have done? I know there is nothing I can do to stop her and it's her right to do what she wants but it would be good to know so I can rule things out.

Ps cat has had full check up at vet and nothing medically wrong with her at all.

Thank you in advance.

Something that emits a high pitched sound or similar?

Fluffycloudland77 · 30/08/2018 14:53

I'm thinking sound based too. Who the hell doesn't like birds Confused

Dollymixture22 · 30/08/2018 19:35

Probably those noise things. Children can hear them too - and they can hurt!

I hate them - seem so cruel

Yes that's what my mum thought it might be. I personally think it's so mean but I'm an animal person. I guess there is a possibility it's upsetting my poor girl.

She doesn't like birds. We had a bird nesting in one of our trees and it had little babies and she came and shouted at me as she didn't want birds nesting near her garden. Apparently I should have put a football in the space in the tree to deter the bird from nesting there! I was more concerned my cat might get the nest (she didn't as she doesn't jump)!

Thank you all for replying.

What a horrible person.

Why not ask her if/what she's done as it's drastically affected your cat?
