Biting, clawing, squeaky 1 and a half years old cat - what is going on with him?

Sorry to disappear for months and then reappear when I want something - I think I've name changed in that time too - but I hope you don't mind me asking about my little boy - he is not himself.

I've had my boy since he was 9 weeks and the affectionate, velcro kitten has turned in the last 6 months into a slightly less cuddly cat but still very much my shadow, neutered a year ago.

The last week or so he's started clawing and biting at my legs and hands, I can't get to look at his teeth but could they be hurting him? I play with him - we've had "Da Bird" due to a recommendation from ollivander a year ago and I've played even more over these days and it stops him from attacking me for an hour or so and then he ignores the toy and goes back to attacking me. He's never miaowed - he just squeaks, it's a pitiful noise that usually means he wants something - he sits and squeaks and then starts clawing at me...

He's had a few lovely cuddly moments and he's still eating and drinking. Any suggestions? I work in a hospital and the alcohol gel is agonising on my hands and there are holes in my trousers and skirts!!

It's the teenage phase, I think. They grow out of it in a few years...

Sounds like my clingy affectionate meowing shadow... so I'll hang around and see if anyone's got any good ideas. Leroy is 3 1/2 now so it's a loooooong phase if that's all it is 🙄.

Seriously though I would say that a sudden change like that should be checked out by a vet if you can't link it to anything (eg builders, cattery, new bully cat in neighbourhood...)

The pitiful squeak is definitely a "I want attention" noise - my Girlcat has started to do that an awful lot since I started working from home. I really pathetic noise that cuts through you, almost heartbreaking, and all she wants is a quick stroke and me to watch her eat. There is absolutely nothing wrong with her, it's just fuss she's after.

Your boy may well be doing that, just taking it a LOT further. Otherwise possibly as suggested above - he's a teenager!

I'd say get him checked over by vet. He might have something that's troubling him. You've certainly got your hands full there. Lovely floofsGrin

Thanks for your advice everyone... he's currently adorably asleep next to me while I mumsnet am working on teaching material from home. I will take the boy to the vet, and just hope that this isn't "just a phase" of the months/years long variety. Like a teenager I love him to bits but I don't enjoy his company all that much just at the moment.
Want2BeMe thank you, they are both rescues but I think they are gorgeous!!
