A very pregnant tabby has just sneaked into my shed

How soon should I buy a cat bed for my new kitten overlord to ignore?

But really, do I need to do anything? She's wearing a collar so obviously has a home. I don't want to scare her.

Can you get her to a vet to check for micro chip? Someone may be frantic if she has gotten out accidently.

SendYouUpInFlames · 22/08/2018 11:22

If she has a home they should know not to let a very pregnant cat out!!

Are you sure she's not lost? And been lost for a while, managed to get pregnant, and never found her way home?

She may be going in there for the kittens.. oooh updates are needed!!!

Whatever you do, try not to scare her away. Can you not try to -persuade- lure her into your house with some treats?

thecatneuterer · 22/08/2018 11:26

I very much doubt she has a home. That's the problem with collars (well, one of many), if a cat gets lost when wearing one then they find it even harder than they would do normally to get help.

A cat in heat can be chased many miles by toms and end up being unable to get home. If she has a home that's where she should be now (and of course she should have been neutered). I think you have to work on the assumption that she's a stray. It would be an idea to get her scanned for a chip, but cats are normally chipped at the same time as they are neutered, she is extremely unlikely to have one.

What local cat rescues do you have? Can you call them? In the meantime can you take her in? Do you have a quiet room where she could go?

Picture of the kittens please when they arrive 😍

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 22/08/2018 11:38

Eek, OK, I didn't think that she should have been kept in at home. Luckily the kids are away for a couple of days so the house is quiet. I'll go out and see how she is ans maybe bring her into the utility room if she'll let me. I have ham to tempt her. I'll also find a comfy box and an old towel or blanket for it.

She's gone, hopefully to her own home. I'll keep an eye out for her, just in case.

I'd got a little bed ready for her an everything Sad

Can you put that in the shed? Try and tempt her back. With some water and some food? Kitten food preferably. Oh I hope she comes back.

MrsMotherHen · 22/08/2018 11:59

awww no hopefully she comes back.

Magicstar1 · 22/08/2018 12:00

Hopefully she's got a good home that she's gone back to

thecatneuterer · 22/08/2018 12:06

Can you leave some dry food and water in the garden? I bet she doesn't have a home. If she comes back try to attach a note to her collar.

chemenger · 22/08/2018 12:08

If she comes back your local Cat Protection branch may be able to come out and check for a chip, or may be able to put you in touch with someone who can. They should also be able to at least offer you support in helping her, if they can’t take her in themselves. We’re still awash with kittens, but would always try to give some help.

ivenoideawhatimdoing · 22/08/2018 12:20

Oh bless you op, leave dry food and water and as hard as it is, when you know she is in there take a bed sheet/blanket and throw it over her and then get her in some sort of crate.

She’s very vulnerable if she’s a stray/lost - take her to the local vets and see if she has a microchip. If she does hopefully she can be reunited; if not then you get to take her home!

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 22/08/2018 12:30

I've rung some local vet clinics but none have a note of a missing cat of her description. They will all scan her for a chip if I can get her to them. I've let the neighbours know a but her so they'll keep an eye out too. I'm happy to feed her if she comes back but I'm reluctant to leave food out - we have a lot of foxes in the area. Fingers crossed she's gone home. Good idea to put the bed in the shed, I'll do that in case she returns.
