I've wasted my money (again) haven't I?

Most nights we are finding a big, fat slug in Harry's food bowl. They don't seem fussy whether it's dry or wet food either.

Until DH finds the source of our unwelcome visitors I decided to buy Harry a motion sensor food bowl. Let's just say he's not overkeen! We set it to the teaching setting and he approached it with caution, sat back from it and stretched out an arm as far as possible so he could hook out the biscuits and eat them off the floor!

This isn't going to end well is it?

You should try teaching two very thick Persians how to use a microchip feeder, that even I couldn't work out!

He’s so predictable!

He’s currently eating dinner out of a normal bowl. I left the other one down so he could hopefully get used to it but he wouldn’t go near it. It’s pitiful really!

I looked at the microchip feeders but thought as he’s an only cat he didn’t need one. I think he’d have been traumatised for life!

Is there any way you can slightly raise the food bowl from the floor on a little stand and put copper tape around the stand (it deters slugs)? Or research whether slug=cat food?

I can try, but you do realise that raising his bowl is a change and Harry doesn't do change?! Seriously that's a good idea, I'll get DH on the case. I've been wracking my brains to think of anything to deter the slugs and all I've come up with a a bowl of beer (i.e. drunk Harry!) or pellets which I won't even use int he garden.

The feeder is going to be going back to Amazon. We only put biscuits in it and Harry didn't get close to it so it's as good as new.

Would it be easier, and cheaper food wise, to train him to eat slugs?

What a brilliant idea! He'd be getting fresh meat every day, the slug problem would be solved and I'd be rich!

I told DH about the cunning plan and he's pointed out a potential problem - Harry will have to catch the slug himself and it may move too quickly!

Also cat sick containing slug is rank...........my user name came from a morning where I trod in that!

I seem to recall crushed egg shells deter slugs? Maybe a ring of that round his bowl?

My cat took one look at his automatic feeder and smashed it against the wall. It broke and he got his own way and still uses his own bowls .
