Question about prescriptions and buying meds online

I've just got a prescription for cat medicine as it's cheaper to buy it online than the vets.

It just occurred to me, what's to stop people using this prescription at different online shops so they can order more in bulk? Do they physically check the prescription with the prescribing vet?

Well it's a few years ago and my old cat was on medication for a renal condition. The vet had been fully trained at the Whiskas School of Wallet Lightening, so once I had prescription I made duplicates and used them to buy from a much, much cheaper on-line pharmacy.

It makes sense doesn't it, but there must be checks they make otherwise people could buy lots from different places off one prescription?

All our prescriptions are number from our system and random prescriptions are checked.
As an aside we as a practice can not get the massive wholesale deals that the on-line pharmacies get so we can not buy even at the price the on-line pharmacies sell for.

Your online pharmacy will request the original copy of the prescription or an electron copy stamped and sent via email from your vet

Random checks make sense.
The online pharmacy that I just bought my cats meds from just wanted a photo of the original prescription which prompted my original question.

Which one was it?
