Hi, I don’t know if anyone had any advice.

I would love a cat and the kids would love any pet of any description. The problem is dh. He’s has asthma and is allergic to anything with fur. But I really want a cat.

Just how hypoallergenic are hypoallergenic cats?

They aren't. There's no such thing. It's not just the fur people are allergic to. Nobody can guarantee he won't react to a particular breed.

Many reputable breeders do allergy sessions. When we were considering getting our Siberian we visited one and spent an hour with the cats. I usually become quite ill in a home with cats, but didn't even need antihistamines after petting them. We got our girl about 9 months later and had another meeting with her at the breeder's home to check whether or not my lack of response was a one off. Then a few weeks later we took her home. I can't brush her as that does set me off, but otherwise I'm totally fine with her.

I spent time with our kittens. Since they came home I found I am allergic to one of two sisters.
With asthma? I wouldn't risk it.
