My oldest girl cat is 14.
I hope she will be around for many years to come.

A friend’s cat reached 25. My parents currently have a kitty of 19.

Weedsnseeds1 · 18/05/2018 22:01

Previous cat was 20, a few months shy of 21 when she had to be PTS.
She was a bit doddery and skinny, but basically OK. When it came to it, she went downhill very rapidly.

My neighbour's cat is 21, she is starting to look her age, struggles with stairs and is very frail. Sadly i don't think she has much longer left but at the moment she is happy to potter around and snooze in the sun.

My oldest was 20 but two ladies I worked with had cats of 22 and 24.

Midthreademergencynamechange · 18/05/2018 22:39

My Mum's pet cat, a beautiful tabby called Tuppence. She was 20 years old when she went. I haven't known an older cat since. My own cat was pts aged nearly 18 recently Sad Sad Sad Sad Sad.

blacklister · 18/05/2018 22:43

My childhood cat was half Persian half something random. We had her pts at 20 when she got poorly, but until then she was in great health.

tillytoodles1 · 18/05/2018 22:45

My last cat was 18, the one before him was twenty and I currently have a fifteen year old.

InanimateCarbonRod · 18/05/2018 22:49

My MILs cat is 21 going on 5 Grin Well she tries, she's still a kitten at heart.

PositiveCattitude · 18/05/2018 22:52

It's good to hear of so many living to be a good age thanks.

The oldest cat that I ever had the pleasure of treating was called Snowy and was 26 when he was sadly put to sleep. His owner had him as a present on her 18th birthday and had had him all her adult life. He was such a lovely cat and named Snowy, not because he was white but because it was snowing the day they brought him
home as a baby kitten.

Wincher · 18/05/2018 22:55

Wow, this is an eye opener - I didn't know cats could routinely live into their 20s and beyond! I thought 18-19 was about as far as they ever got. I wasn't brought up with cats and my cat now is 11 (had her from a kitten). She was born middle aged though and is enjoying life as (what I thought was) a middle aged to elderly cat! Sounds like she is still a relative youngster though.

SneakyGremlins · 18/05/2018 22:56

Mine is coming up to two years old and I'm hoping he bloody turns middle aged! He's exhausting! Grin

forgottenusername · 18/05/2018 22:59

ours is 22 :) he's wobbly, frequently confused and his toileting habits are terrible!

Our last one was 17.5 when we had he put to sleep, not sure how long she would have struggled on for though. I knew someone whose cats were 22 and 23 though.

viccat · 18/05/2018 23:26

A friend just had to PTS her 21 year old recently, but she'd had a hard life being abandoned and then rescued so she did really well. I also heard of a 22 year old recently but he's also developing quite a few health problems now.

ThatGirl82 · 18/05/2018 23:36

Our family cat died at 22, and that was because she was run over. She was very frail and only had about three teeth, but she could have lived a little longer.

Jux · 18/05/2018 23:37

The oldest I've had was 19. She was very doddery, senile and had a thyroid problem. We had her pts eventually.

MinaPaws · 18/05/2018 23:39

I love this thread. Our cat is 14, still very lively, and I want him to go on forever. He is so snuggly and affectionate and has the best personality. Good to know he might have another 6-10 years in hin.

Littlelondoner · 18/05/2018 23:46

An friend of mine got a kitten when his younger brother was born. The cat died the other month. I have just recieved invite to said baby brothers 30th in a few weeks. So thats a hell of an age for a cat 29/30!!

snotato · 18/05/2018 23:56

My oh’s nans cat lived until she was a whooping 22 Shock

Els1e · 19/05/2018 15:21

23 years old. And oddly she was the runt of the litter and had health issues. I took her on not expecting her to have a long life. But she proved my assumption wrong. So glad she did!

MildlyFedUp · 19/05/2018 16:35

Madsie what a horrible thing to do! I wouldn't forgive her either (the neighbor who had your cat put down and didn't tell you).
