Can you stop cats scratching the furniture?

Our cat has scratched her claws on our suede sofa. She does have a scratching post which she uses as well.

Is there any way to discourage this?

She might need some more scratchy places. Have you any space for a cat tree? That has been a saviour in our house.

Do you mean one of those tall things goofy?

Scratching post and feliway worked with ours

A throw over the bit she scratches or something with an unpleasant feel to it like polythene.

Thank you, I've heard of feliway, will look into that.

We actually have 2 sofas and she has scratched both of them. They're about 10 years old but were expensive and in very good condition other than the scratched bits. I don't think dh has noticed the extent of the damage but he wasn't keen on getting the cat in the first place so I want to try and nip it in the bud.

Sofa manufacturer has given me details of a company that may be able to help with the damage.
