Cat groomer cut my cat’s skin

I feel awful. I have two persian cats. They have beautiful coats and I manage to keep on top of grooming them so they don’t get matted but the problem is they hate being groomed and I feel awful putting them through it. So I had the bright idea of getting a cat groomer to clip their fur to a shorter length so they don’t need brushing as much. I thought it would be nicer for the cats. The groomer came a few days ago and did some but they got really distressed so she said it was too stressful for them to do all at once so came back today to finish. I don’t know why, but she used a really close blade at the base of the tail and somehow cut some of one of my cats skin there 😞

I’ve since seen some awful reviews on the internet for this cat groomer and now feel awful that I didn’t do my research properly.

I’m a terrible cat owner aren’t I.

All our Persians ended up being dematted at some point and got little cuts off the vets.

Is the cut spreading? Cat skin is delicate so you might want to pop her down the vets for a check up.

Thanks for your reply Fluffy. She has her annual check up booked in for Saturday anyway so will ask the vet to take a look then, but I’m thinking of bringing the appointment forward just in case. The cut is right under her tail so I’m worried about it getting infected.

My cat didn’t even have mats...I just thought it’d be a better quality of life for them not having to be brushed every day because they hate it

I'm sure it was an accident. She's probably mortified. I once cut my Persians neck and I was devastated. She wasn't bothered though. It will heal very quickly. If you live around the East Midlands I can recommend my groomer, who is fantastic.

Ps. All owners of Persians must post photos. Litter tray law

Mine ended up with stitches. But with hindsight it didn't need them. It didn't even bleed and her sister had a bigger hole left from a feeding tube and it healed fine.

Yes pictures please! And I can recommend a lady in the North East.

My little ones nips tend to get caught when doing her belly. She doesn't mind so much.

Thanks for your kind replies everyone. I feel a little better now knowing how common it is.

I’m in south east/east of England kind of area if anyone has any recommendations for cat groomers please let me know. Although I might be too scared to give it another try now 😬

But the thing is we are going on holiday for 10 days later in the year and no-one else will be able to cope with grooming them whilst we are away so we’ll need them clipped again before we go really. Right now I’m thinking I’d rather not leave them to go on holiday!

Your vets may well offer that as a service, as the nurses do get to clip all sorts of animals?

CatTurmoil · 17/04/2018 18:30

Allergic -good point, I’ll ask the vet when we’re there.

Perhaps find a Persian breeder who also offers grooming least then they know what they're dealing with and who loves Persians. Our little babies are an acquired taste Grin

Ahem, excuse me, but aren't we forgetting something....
