Is there any way to persuade a cat to use a different part of the garden as her loo?

One of my cats has taken to pooing in a very specific part of the garden, unburied. She always used to bury - this new approach coincides with the kitten first going outside so I guess is a territory marking thing. The kitten definitely isn't the culprit - he uses a litter tray.

I don't mind the poo - it is my responsibility - but the garden would look less disgusting if she went in a different border, under some large shrubs (there's plenty of access to the soil for her). I've tried moving the poo to the spot I want her to use, but it's made no difference. Is there anything else I can try?

Have you considered completely barricading the area you want her to use, actively discouraging her from going anywhere near it and making it as cat hostile as possible (thinking barbed wire). They are such contrary little buggers that might just work.

:o - yes, knowing this particular cat and her utter disdain for me, that probably would work. I wish she'd just use a litter tray but she's disdainful of them as well - I can tell she judges the kitten when he uses his.

I made an outside toilet area for my (dearly departed) cats. They were getting very old and I didn't want them to go over the fence to a piece of scrub land anymore.

I planted low growing shrubs, and then had a sandpit in the middle of them, basically. I dug a wide and shallow hole in our clay soil, and filled it with sand. And I took the cats and raked their feet a bit in the sand, and made a fuss of them. They were sort of hidden there, so they felt safe, but it was really easy for me to go and poo pick also.

They took to it very well!
