What time of day best to bring new kitten home?

Wondering if morning is best so it has the whole day to get used to new environment, or evening?
It’s a 14 week old British Shorthair.

Also, current owner says it will need a large cage type thing to sleep in until it gets used to new home. They look bulky and probably only necessary for a short while. Should I get one?

Time of day shouldn't matter much but pick a quiet day/week when you have no parties or many visitors planned...

Our charity recommends using one room of the house as the cat's room for the first week or so to get them used to the new scents, sounds and people. Ideally a quiet room with no through traffic - a spare room is ideal, your bedroom will do if nothing else available.

I wouldn't get a crate for a kitten, and you're right you won't need it after a while so it's an unnecessary expense. I'd only get a crate if I had other pets AND no separate room for new cat, in order to do slow introductions.

You could use the cat carrier as a crate but leave the door off. One of mine still goes for a snooze in the carrier sometimes (it's stored with the door off in a spare room)

We had dcat from the RSPCA at 12 weeks. He had no intention of being confined to one room, explored the whole house and settled in straight away.
They’re all different. If you have a shy, nervous kitty, by all means keep them to one room, but you might not need to. Just take care they can’t escape out of a door or window. We had dcat at the end of July so it was a case of having windows closed or only open a crack despite the heat!
