Hi all, On Monday I got my cat back after a year,he had been hanging round a local hotel and some fast food places. A lady posted him on facebook and there was a big discussion which resulted in him being scanned and returned. I couldnt believe it! He had only lost 1KG.
Also this year another of mine went missing for 10 days and was at the bottom of my street.
So dont give up if yours is missing too. I just thought those reunited by their chips was very few and it would never happen to me.Both are Toms, which I think even if they are neutered can still be wanderers.

That's brilliant, I'm so glad he's home safe and sound!

MudCity · 18/03/2018 17:59

Amazing news...so pleased for you both!

EachandEveryone · 18/03/2018 19:41

Did he recognise you? How long is he grounded for? Brilliant news!

VanGoghsLeftEar · 18/03/2018 19:47

I saw a story on Twitter about a cat who went missing for five years then one day just strolled through the cat flap as if it meant nothing. I think it was in Canada. I don't think he went far, to a near neighbour's house.

Thanks everyone, Hes shown no interest in going out and I'm keeping him in for a couple of months. When its better weather he can go out during the day but not at night.
We think he might have recognised us, apparently cats do have a long term memory.

Good grief, he’s been out in all the really cold weather too!.

Rudgie47 · 18/03/2018 20:21

I know, I think he might have had a feeder who stopped for some reason. He was sleeping behind a health centre and visiting places like Pizza hut!.He wouldnt move out from the front of this hotel so a guest kindly put him on facebook.
He had no fleas or worms and is in good health.Apparently he was seen crossing this really busy dual carriageway every morning as well.

Did you say he's still a Tom?

Please get him neutered Sadhe's probably fathered hundreds of kittens in the last year!

Rudgie47 · 18/03/2018 20:49

Hes been neutered years ago.

Doesn't Tom cat just mean male? I didn't realise it meant unneutered.

RandomMess · 18/03/2018 21:00

I'm not sure because I suppose once their balls are chopped off are they still male...????

RandomMess · 18/03/2018 21:00

Fluffycloudland77 · 18/03/2018 21:29

Are you saying neutered males are trans? Grin

RandomMess · 18/03/2018 21:41

According to my internet research a male castrated cat is known as a gib!

Rudgie47 · 18/03/2018 21:45

Thats a ferret isnt it?
A male neutered cat, is known as a neutered Tom I thought.

My tortie girl went missing for 6 months. Saw her sitting under a tree at the local shops one day!! Knocked at a few houses and she had been living rough, few smashed teeth and matted long hair but OK otherwise. Took her a while to resettle, lots of high value foods to encourage her to hang around!! It was about 15 years ago but still remember I burst into tears!! She was from a rescue so assume she had been used to being self sufficient.

RandomMess · 18/03/2018 21:51

They are gibs derived from Gilbert's BUT it seems to fallen out of use in more recent decades from what I'm reading. I certainly use Tom to only mean an intact male and personally use boy for my neutered male. My mature neighbours (half the street so 10 households) use Tom to mean the same as we regularly discuss the latest one that's turned up terrorising the resident cats who have their territory sorted and just ignore each other!

Ancient scraggy Ginger Tom finally stopped periodically turning up (tried and failed to catch that one) now replaced by b*stard WHite Tom SadAngry fortunately it is frightened by our dog which has reduced the number of fights...

Unless his name is Obie and then it is 'git'.

Tom is an entire male. I checked once after i got similarly confused. I was also going to say Toms will wander, neutered males are less likely to.

RandomMess · 19/03/2018 12:09

@YetAnotherSpartacus

Yeah Charlie otherwise known as "you bastard cat"

YetAnotherSpartacus · 19/03/2018 12:14

Lovingly of course ...

RandomMess · 19/03/2018 12:46

Not so loving when it's regarding his gifts...

Live baby or adult(grey) squirrel anyone??? Good job he is utterly loving, cuddly and adorable the remaining 99% of the time Grin
