Me going the toilet and my cats

I have two cats. Brothers from the same litter. Both very different.

They are both loving. And loving to each other. Never fight ever.

One is a lap cat when he feels like it. The other. Never.

The one who isn't a lap cat follows me to the toilet every time. Every time. I work from home. If I close the door he pushes it open. Sits next to the toilet. Doesn't do it with anyone else.

If it's relevant, we have a cat flap, his brother goes out but is mostly in the house with us but the toilet watcher has never once used it. Will go out if the door is open.

Why does he follow me? Any ideas?

One of my cats went through a phase of following me into the bathroom whilst I was having a wee, jumping in the bath next to me, sitting over the plug hole and weeing into it. I think she was copying me....

If you can wee into the plug hole I applaud youGrin

He loves you and wants to be with you.

One of my cats also wees in the plug hole every morning whilst I’m on the loo! HmmGrin

I got my former ‘street cat’ when I was pregnant and therefore peeing All The Time. He was totally uninterested in any kind of affection outside of the bathroom, but used to do the same as yours, even at 2am, 4am etc. Eventually I put him on my lap and stroked whilst I was there and he LOVED it.

I think it’s a too cool for school thing - they know no one else will be in there with you, seeing them lose their machismo and enjoying a good old stroke!

Ps 4 years in and mine still only comes for a cwtch if nobody else is around Grin

I think some cats just like the whole bathroom thing, (can't think of the word just now). They like the sounds, the smells tooGrin, the loo roll, the water from the taps, the flush, (one of mine particularly loves the flush) and the fact that you're captive sitting on the throne. He's picked you because he loves everything about you the mostWink

Sybil's Aw my other half says cwtch and it's a new word for me well it was when I heard it.

I will try giving him a cuddle when I'm in there

Awww, we have a toilet attendant.

She'll follow you in, sit on the side of the bath while you pee, then when you're finished you have to 'tip' her either with a Dreamie or by filling up the water bowl in there.

I have no idea how or when this happened. The situation evolved.

Toddlerteaplease · 18/03/2018 06:24

One of mine will sometimes follow me into the bathroom. She goes in to Cat ecstasy in there. Rolling around. Pseudo spraying and very very purry. She doesn't do it anywhere else. It's so cute and them delays me going in the shower!

mimibunz · 18/03/2018 06:32

The Bunz is my faithful toilet attendant. He will weave between my legs and then wait for me to finish. Once he even pushed the door open for me. Bless him.

All our cats have done this, old boy runs ahead in the mornings so he beats me, he will sit on the side of the bath while I get ready. He has be known to try an cross behind me while I'm on the loo to get to the sink then window ledge. Little cat likes to sit on the side of the bath when I'm in it and Sometimes she tries to sit on my chest mid bath. Cats are odd, but I wouldn't be without them.

Both of ours do this with me - rarely with DP - Cat1 does it more frequently than Cat2. I've learnt not to shut the door properly, because if I do then they scratch at the door, so I have to just push it to. Cat1 launches himself at the door so it flings wide open and he comes flying through! Cat2, who is smaller and lighter, tries to push it open with his paw - hilarious watching his little white/pink paw trying to open the door! And first thing in the morning, their breakfast time, they sit and miaow at my feet wondering why I'm not immediately getting up to feed them Grin
