ordering (prescription) drugs for cat online

As some of you know, OldGrumpyCat is almost 20 and is a happy cat as long as he keeps taking 4 pills (vidalta, amlodip, cystafan and new one for kidney damage)+metacam daily.

My vet has offered to write a prescription so I can buy cheaper drugs online.

Does anyone do this? where do you get your drugs from? Am currently spending £100 a month on his pills..... but he happily takes them (as long as in his favourite treats) and is a happy (but expensive) mog.

Hi yes, I buy prescription drugs for my horses as it is much cheaper at a third of the price. If you use a site based in France you may not even need the prescription. I have just used Cocoon but I've used other ones depending on which is the cheapest that month. It took 3 days for them to deliver, but another one I used took 10 days. Just google and see what comes up. I've never had a problem with any of the ones I've used and the drugs are exactly the same except the bottles are also in French!

Yes, I used to use Vetimed for all our dogs and cats flea and worming treatments. Even with the £10 prescription fee our vet charged it worked out to be so much cheaper.

Thank you !

had a quick look, and vetimed seems to be worth it for the vidalta and amlodip (and metacam if i ask for the 15ml bottle).

My vet charges £13... :(

The treatments I got always used to have a really long shelf life so I would order as much as possible so that I could go as long as possible without needing to get a new prescription. You could always ring them and ask about the expiry date of the drugs you are ordering. They were always very helpful whenever I spoke to them.

Thanks

its odd, but i don't like tempting fate? I might get 2 months worth.... but he is 20 with kidney disease.....
.... thought knowing the bugger he will last another 5!

(ok, i love him, but he is still an expensive pest)

next question for those who dispense metacam to their overlords.....

has anyone figured out how many ml there are in each "unit" of the dispensing syringe? How many doses does your bottle last ?

My old boy is on Loxicom (same as Metacam) and a 15ml bottle lasts approximately 4 weeks with a daily dose for a 6kg cat.

QueenOfAccidentalDeathStares · 16/03/2018 15:27

ok, so 674 = 168 single unit doses in 15ml...... so about 0.1ml per single unit dose....

so my 3ml bottle should last 30 days.... that might be right. 15ml bottle seems excessive them.

I hate the metacam bottles, as you have no way of knowing if they are about tho run out.

(Grumpy is deliberately under-dosed due to his kidney damage).

Yeah I use petdrugsonline as I also get quidco cashback.

Never had a problem.

Toddlerteaplease · 16/03/2018 15:33

I looked at it for Fatty's medication but couldn't find the ones she was on. Apparently some human pharmacies do it as well. But again I couldn't find her drugs. So I just get them from the cardiologist.

I was slightly overwhelmed when I first googled so asked our vet for recommendations as I wanted to check they were ok. I used animeddirect.co.uk (I would use them again if the need arose) and she also recommended petdrugsonline.co.uk. I used viovet for syringes.
