How can I stop my cats destroying the furniture?

Just that really! They've ruined sofas, carpets, upholstered beds. I've tried everything. They have a scratching post but it doesn't help.

I really want to buy some new dining chairs but they're upholstered too and would just get trashed!

Thank you!

I've been wondering for the last 30 year's Grin. You could try spraying furniture with anti scratch spray, double-sided tape, spray cats with water and lemon if you see them scratchingHmm, wall hanging scratch pads. I spent 2 years debating wether or not to buy a new sofa. I bought it and 6 months down the line one of my cats has started to scratch it. Fortunately, the fabric is a very tight weave, so I'm hoping it'll stay in tact.

when we bought our new sofa we put orange peel under it, as i'd read cats dont like the smell. It worked.

Bit more difficult with dining chairs, but you could try rubbing orange oil on wooden parts.

Thank you! I'll try orange peel and oil. They're a nightmare though, I don't know why they do it!

Mine do it too, but less after the vet trimmed their claws (just for clarity, they were trimmed not declared). Stops for a while till they grow again!

You can’t! Confused

How old are they? my cat did this until he was three then stopped.

You can't. I just avoid all upholstery. My dining chairs are solid wood. My sofa is a metal framed day bed. My armchairs are made of poly resin. My bed has a hard gloss frame and headboard. I have no carpets.

I envy people who can buy upholstered things ...
