Cat flap for maine coon and small cat

Hello. I’ve just adopted a male Maine coon, adult but not fully grown, and a fully grown small domestic short hair. I want to add an interior cat flap out to where the litters are.
Anyone out there with very different sized cats? I’m wondering do I need two cat flaps side by side or will one suffice? I’m thinking the optimal height for both will be different, and to a lesser degree wondering if the smaller cat will find the larger flap difficult to push through.
Any insights and experiences appreciated, incl re particular cat flaps.

The smaller cat will cope fine with a larger flap. You really don't need two.

And you must post photos of your new additions!

Maine Coons are big cats but an average Maine Coon isn’t so significantly larger than a DSH that they won’t be able to use the same flap. I think just one larger cat flap will be fine, you won’t need a super large dog-door sort of flap, not unless you have an unusually monstrous specimen anyway.

Thank you all! Would you split the difference between their chest height when picking the height for the bottom part of the flap?

(I may be overthinking this (smile))

I think you're overthinking it! Just put it where it feels right.

When placing the flap, go by the chest height of your shortest cat. We have two DSH and a domestic long hair. The fluffy boy has T-Rex front paws and chest height. He's 2cm shorter than the DSH, 18cm vs. 20cm. We put the catflap at his height.

I read that as flat cap. Sorry I have no advice Grin congratulations on the new additions.

We have a Big Cat catflap which worked perfectly for our Maine Coon and moggisa. He was one of the extra large ones and we hadn’t quite set it into the door high enough for him, and it’s slightly too high for our remaining mogs, so a bit of a compromise was required all round. I do suggest making sure it’s firmly fixed in place though. One of our mogs had a pure evil streak and took great delight in scaring the hell out of him when he was in the kitchen - he would charge at the catflap and end up taking it with him or the flap part would end up one side of the door and we would have a howling gale coming through the house! I miss him. Enjoy your MC. They really are as special as everyone says they are xx
