Alternatives to the cone of shame

DCat was spayed yesterday and came home complete with cone. She obviously hated it and couldn’t get to her food/water properly (we gave her small dishes and raised them off the ground). When I came downstairs this morning the poor little blighter had got her leg stuck through the cone so we had to cut the cone off. DH has been sitting holding her 7am as she was trying to pull her stitches out.

Has anyone used alternatives to a hard plastic cone, i.e. soft cone or vest? What would you recommend?

Big men’s tube sock with the toe cut off.

Or: if you sew, a length of knit rib jersey sewed into a tube

You can get inflatable collars.

I got recovery suits from amazon

We tried a little suit when ours was spayed. Unfortunately she hated it even more than the cone, and the two minutes she had it on were quite distressing for all concerned.

I made a vest as the vet wanted £15 for one - but you can get inflatable collars and sort of cardboard ruffle ones as well. The vet will have loads to try, they've seen it all before.

Didn't use anything when my three female cats were spayed, no problems with any of them.
Successive cats, not all at the same time.
Current cat is male and came de-bollocked.

A friend adapted a baby gro. Cat was not particularly impressed but tolerated it better than the cone

Should link to a cat with a collar thing on

We like ‘medical pet shirts’ which cover most areas quite well but allow for toileting etc, lots of sizes.
