I’ve woken up early and can’t get back to sleep cause I’m so excited we’re going to pick up a 5 month rescue cat today! This is my first pet ever!

I’ve been doing lots of reading and have had advice from the shelter too but a couple of things are worrying me.

I know we should keep him in one room initially until he gets used to us. How long for do you think? Also hate the thought of leaving him overnight on his own but I guess he’ll be used to that from the shelter anyway.

Also I can work from home most of the time if needs be- do you think its better to spend more time at home over the next few weeks until he settles in and/or starts going outside or am i overthinking this?

Ours is deeply attached to DH and when little would sleep on his shoulder, snuggled into his neck.

He's now about 5 feet long when stretched out, so has to go on his lap, or up on his chest with his whiskers up his nose Grin

He also likes a mutual chin scratch - he rests his chin against DH's stubble and they have a little rub. Tis v cute.

Awww he is precious! Sounds like he's really landed on his paws with you. I can't believe his previous owners were unable to tolerate his liveliness - he's a KITTEN! Seriously what did they think?! Anyway, enjoy him, he's a smasher!

AnnieAnoniMouse · 23/02/2018 22:26

He’s lovely 😻

Here’s to many happy years together 🍾🥂🐟

EachandEveryone · 23/02/2018 22:35

Great name, did he come with it?

honeyroar · 23/02/2018 22:41

He's lovely. We own his double!

He looks and sounds gorgeous 😻 I hoe you have many happy years with him and enjoy his kittenish ways!!! By 6 months my kitten could handle 2 meals a day bit if you are around at home you could feed smaller and often to start. I still have to type one handed if I try to do any work from home as my boy cat, now nearly 11m, insists on being held when at all possible!

We have had such a fun time with him but my god he needs a lot of entertainment- can totally see why the previous elderly owner couldn't handle him. Last night he slept in with us but was like having a newborn, he woke us regularly by swiping and licking and nipping us, it was moderately terrifying (as I have never owned a pet or even been near animals before!) however he also snuggled in well. We've had a great day with him, he played for 2 hours solid this morning being a total tazmanian devil, then he crashed out and has been eating and using the litter tray well. Kids are besotted and have earned his trust, he has slept on my eldest. Today he has been roaming as if he owns the place and drinking from the bathroom tap. He's very affectionate and has nearly worn away the end of DHs nose from licking it.

Honeyroad would love to see a pic of your twin pussycat!

No he had another name before but we decided to change it as we know a very annoying child with his old name Blush

Seriously, look up Jackson Galaxy on YouTube- US cat behaviourist. Looks a bit like a rockabilly hell's angel - loads of ideas.

honeyroar · 24/02/2018 19:23

If I fits, I sits. Fantastic photo!

MycatsaPirate · 24/02/2018 20:23

He is gorgeous!

Get him one of the roller coaster toys. Ours play with this for hours every day.

MycatsaPirate · 24/02/2018 20:23

sorry, roller circuit. The Catit Senses toys are brilliant.

mollyblack · 24/02/2018 21:29

Aw Gingertom he is gorgeous!!

That roller thing looks amazing- i think he’d love one of them- thanks for the tip.

Have just had another big play before bed in the hope he’ll be a wee bit calmer tonight!

As if he owned the place.

Op he does own the place. You are his humble slaves. He lets you live in his house.

He's absolutely gorgeous. He'll hopefully settle down at night and not disturb you as much once he's properly settled. Nothing better than snuggling up to a purring cat.
