Cat hasn't come home

My lovely young boy cat (11 months) hasn't come home tonight. I'm desperately worried and feel so helpless.

He's been going out for four months via the catflap, and until tonight he's reliably come home at about 6 o'clock at the latest. He usually also comes running when I shake the dreamies tin.

I've looked everywhere, over and over. Have messaged a few friends on the street, popped a note through neighbours door and put a message on the local Facebook group.

He's never stayed out like this and ignored my calls. I hate to think of him frightened or injured somewhere. It's so cold and I can't think that he'd deliberately stay out without something bad having happened.

He's such an independent cat, but still only a baby really at 10 months.

I can't sleep and can't beat the thought of going to work tomorrow with him still missing.

Posting for a handhold I guess- DH is away and DS with his dad, so there's no one here. Oh DS will be devastated if our cat is lost!

Always been tempted to attach a cat cam to see where they go

timtam23 · 15/01/2018 15:57

Glad he's back!

Hi OP I really hope he finds his way home,if you haven't done this yet,peg his blanket to your washing line.the scent should help him find his way home if lost.xx

KarmaStar · 15/01/2018 16:02

Oops, sorry I've just read he is home, brilliant!😊🐱 so pleased

Snowyjoey · 15/01/2018 16:08

Oh I'm so glad he's home, the worry is awful! I was coming on to say that my boy cat (around the same age actually) didn't come home for 4 days once! It was so unlike him. But he just waltzed back in through the door and sat expectantly looking at his food bowl, and then slept for about 2 days straight. No idea where he went!

Want2beme · 15/01/2018 16:28

Snowyjoey I can just imagine him coming back, saying "What's the big deal - feed me, already!".

ToadOfSadness · 15/01/2018 18:47

Mine would come when called, throughout the day, if he heard me he would show up for a cuddle and a snack.

Then someone started taking him into their house, removing his collar and ID tag. He would take a lot longer to come back and sometimes only if I went and called him outside their house.

After this happened too many times we built him a big enclosure in the garden. No more worry.

Thank you for all your kind words. I've been shattered today but am just so pleased to have my boy back.

Thank you for the blanket trick- I've never thought of that so will try it if I loose him again. I wonder if putting his litter tray out might help too.

He did seem pretty unruffled when he came back, but he was very very wet which seems quite strange for a cat. He must have been out in the rain for quite a while. I'd love to know what he was doing!

As predicted by several posters he then required breakfast and fell asleep in my bed. I don't usually doze with him in bed because he has a tendency to go from cuddly to devil cat in nano seconds. But I cried quietly all over him whilst he slept this morning.

I was so relieved to find him at home this evening when I got in from work. I've now closed the cat flap for the evening which he is furious about. I tried to make up for it by offering a few dreamies and playing with a dangly fish toy- but he's unimpressed by my efforts and is quietly fuming. Apparently my efforts at playing are pathetic.

The more aloof he is the more I love him. I'm So glad he's home.

@Want2beme he was most unimpressed that I tried to cuddle him to death...he was like "What are you doing woman, I only went for a walk!" Grin

YetAnotherSpartacus · 15/01/2018 22:50

Oooooooo grounded.

RustyPaperclips · 15/01/2018 22:57

So glad to hear he is finally home and sending you hugs. Maybe think about a flea and worming treatment just in case, I was told to treat my boy after he was missing

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 18/01/2018 09:42

Glad your boy is home. You must be so relieved.
