Is this a Ragdoll?

Please can anyone tell me...is this a moggy or a Ragdoll cat? Here are two photos. They are the only ones I can find on Facebook, so unfortunately you cannot see the cats face. The cat is average size. Has normal green/brown cat eyes. I think it's your common and garden variety???

That's a mog, gorgeous mog, but still a mog.
I have four mogs, one is half Maine coon, but that means nothing really, he's still a mog.
I've said mog so many times its ceased to be a wordConfused

Haha, definitely no competitive cat keeping going on. I'm happy to say I own two very ordinary cats who are about as far from pure breed as you can get. But why lie? That's what annoys me. Stop lying you total weirdo, no one cares what breed the cat is.

Here is my 'rag doll' (aka long haired rspca moggy) when she was well.
Sadly she is dying of cancer now.

She obviously has no pedigree but I did wonder if she has any rag doll in her ancestry as she just gives up & hangs there like a rag doll cat when picked up.

This is my sisters actual pedigree Persian cat, he has a long unpronounceable pedigree name & papers. He was expensive too and he knows it...

Weedsnseeds1 What an incredibly handsome cat!

Weedsnseeds1 · 05/01/2018 20:00

Thank you ScreamingValenta. I know I'm biased but he really is the most gorgeous cat, inside and out. A moggy, but maybe not so common or garden Grin

aishana she looks like my boy. Sorry she's so ill.

She had a right go at me when I bumped in to her in Sainsbury's this afternoon. Apparently her cat is 100% Ragdoll. Yes, you can get black Ragdolls. And no, they don't all have blue eyes. She has paperwork God dammit! Anyone who doesn't recognise her mog as a bona fide purebreed Ragdoll is an idiot!

I suspect you guys are wrong, It's kind of interesting, why.

from what I read, there was a kooky woman in California (Ann Baker). 1964, Ann breeds (or lets breed) her own white angora female with the neighbour's Birman tom. From this she got the boycat DW, who she mated with his half Angora sister (F) to produce the first 4 kittens who are considered the foundations of all Ragdolls. At this point, Baker realises maybe they are too inbred & over the years introduces other cats into the line when she sees fit, to ensure some genetic diversity.

Among these original 4 kittens, was a female called Buckwheat (looks tuxedo) who is the progenitor of the "solid" line of Ragdolls. The solids are basically, fluffy dumb cats without the usual points. Often solid black or Tuxedos. With gold eyes. Called "non-traditional" ragdolls online.

I don't know (or care) if Buckwheat's descendants are recognised as Ragdolls in the Uk by a cat-pedigree-certifying body. That may be the dispute on this thread. I can believe the lady has lots of genuine papers. The whole story just proves to me that "pedigree" is a joke wrt modern cat breeds (maybe all cat breeds).

Check this page out for more non-trad "ragdoll" cats. Basically, they can look like absolutely anything.

I have a fluffy black cat. :)

oh no... I got some of that wrong in the pedigrees, maybe cat DW was mated with a random persian black female to beget Buckwheat, and then DW mated with Buckwheat (his own Daughter) to beget the "solids" line.

Meanwhile, DW also matted with his half-sis F to begat the "lights" line of ragdolls which are often tortoiseshells as well as pointed.

Honestly, it's a load of bollocks that must have earnt Baker a stupid amount of money.
