Can I change an open litter tray for a closed one a year down the line?

My beautiful cat is just over 1, we have used an open litter tray since we had him but I am now thinking about getting an enclosed one (I am not quite sure why I didn't do this in the first place). The litter goes everywhere and I am hoover twice a day. Will this work? or will he just simply refuse to go in there, any tips would be great!

I can't imagine it will cause a problem. Your cat already knows what a litter tray is. The only problem will likely come if you want to use one of those enclosed trays that come with a sort of cat flap on the front. It's best to remove the flap, at least to start with, if you want to use one of those.

Put some of his dirty litter/poo in there so he can associate the scent.

A top entry litter tray would drastically reduce the amount of stray litter.

I did. First to a covered tray, then to a top entry one. My pair are really dim, but took to it with no problem.
