Kitten fosterers needed

As I mentioned on Eachandeveryone's thread all cat rescues are desperate for kitten fosterers at the moment. You would need either a spare room, or a kitten pen could be put in any room really as long as there are no escape routes in it. You would then need to spend time playing with and socialising the kittens for a few weeks.

If anyone is in East or North London or Essex and is interested please pm me. Or if you're anywhere else then contact your local rescue.

I caught these three yesterday. They need someone to spend time with them and we have completely run out of fosterers. And there are probably many hundreds more that need to come in.

I would love to do this! We have a spare bedroom while teen is at uni so could definitely try to help our local rescues. Not sure dp will be thrilled, we already have five cats but how could I not want to help?

Do existing (vaccinated!) pets rule you out, or do you just need a door in between?

No they don't rule you out at all Lancelotte. As you say, you just need a door in between.

Excellent post! Yes I know the CP I'm at are always after fosterers for kittens and adult cats.
It's excellent if you aren't able to have a cat permanently. The basics are usually covered by the centre too so food, litter, vet fees.
I have spoken to some of the fosterers, they enjoy it and find it very rewarding as they can help a nervous cat become confident or just help a cat recover from surgery before it's fit to home.
I am trying to convince our upstairs neighbour to foster as he'd be perfect!

Just bumping it. Before having children we fostered over 100 kittens (not at the same time but sometimes it felt like it!). It was the best thing. The kittens were great and it was so rewarding, especially the feral ones

Our kittens came from a foster home. I'm convinced they settled so well because of the fosterer and their experience there.
When the DC move out I'm so converting a bedroom. Don't tell DH!

I'd love to foster but I'm a failed fosterer as I now have 9 cats!

Lanaorana - it wouldn't matter at all about his FlV status, but you would need to be able to keep the fosters separate from other pets regardless.

Champagne - I'd be very surprised if it's not needed anywhere. Although of course wealthier areas always have fewer problems, and Surrey does tend to be wealthier. But have a look on www.catchat.org and contact your local rescues if you're interested.

I'm typing this with one of them down my jumper. He is so scared he's trembling. But I don't really have the time for kitten socialising. With an average of 45 cats to look after at any one time in my house (20 something in my house and another 20 or so in my newly built neuter/return building and my spare room) and with all the trapping/rescue work and with life in general (although that tends to get a bit forgotten) I just don't have the time, or the room, to do it. I hope we can find some more fosterers soon.

And those three are just the tip of the iceberg. We have hundreds and hundreds of more reports in our problem book about mothers and kittens and gardens. If the kittens are four months or more then we just have to neuter and return as they will already be feral. But if they're very little we can't put them back, but equally we have nowhere to put them.
