Kitten fosterers needed

As I mentioned on Eachandeveryone's thread all cat rescues are desperate for kitten fosterers at the moment. You would need either a spare room, or a kitten pen could be put in any room really as long as there are no escape routes in it. You would then need to spend time playing with and socialising the kittens for a few weeks.

If anyone is in East or North London or Essex and is interested please pm me. Or if you're anywhere else then contact your local rescue.

I caught these three yesterday. They need someone to spend time with them and we have completely run out of fosterers. And there are probably many hundreds more that need to come in.

Ah yes, that's always a problem. There are many failed fosterers. And while of course it's lovely that the cats find a home, it does reduce the supply of fosterers still further.

The thought of being woken up at 4am by yet another cat doesn’t fill me with joy so I’m sure I’ll be fine handing them to their new homes!

OliviaStabler · 19/10/2017 18:29

Unfortunately I have a cat who is a ninja and will find a way into the room with the kittens in

LoverOfCake · 19/10/2017 18:34

Well, so far DP has said no, although he doesn't live here so if he doesn't agree then he doesn't get cuddles when he is. I need to run the idea past DS first though as he was very distraught when our last cat was killed and although these wouldn't be going out I'm not sure whether he would want us to part with them.

If anyone is interested in the Farnham/Camberley/Alton/Ash Vale/Aldershot areas of Surrey and Hampshire I'm a volunteer fosterer for Cat's Protection and can put you in contact with our foster recruiters. We definitely need more foster homes for kittens and older cats while waiting for adoption.

@ChampagneCommunist...PM me if you're in these areas of Surrey

Oh...the kittens didn't post for some reason...trying again

chemenger · 19/10/2017 19:37

Here’s my current foster, just arrived today, currently hiding in a very small place. She’s not much bigger than a kitten but actually 4 years old. I’ve been fostering for nearly a year and it’s so rewarding. Haven’t had kittens yet..

I may be able to help too (alhough I’d be worried I’d keep them). Not sure how to pm so please do so OP.

BertieBotts · 19/10/2017 19:44

Well that may explain why we can never find kittens listed in newspapers to buy either Grin

SweetChickadee · 19/10/2017 19:48

Just as well we're not in the Uk. The chances of DH actually giving them back would be very slim Grin

good luck Flowers

Onlyforthis = I've pm'd you. You should see a little bell on the My Mumnet icon at the top of the page.

Nothing to do with this thread particularly but I've just come back from picking up a gorgeous five week old kitten that had been dumped by some bins. He has his back legs on back to front (obviously born that way) and a prolapse. I imagine he was thrown out as he is unsaleable. We will do our best to save him. We have an amazing orthopaedic specialist and one of the legs might be salvageable. He is stunningly cute and very friendly.

Bertie. I believe there are charities that ship over unwanted kittens and cats from places like Romania to Germany. My dream is that one day everywhere will be as sorted from a cat point of view as Germany is.

OP posts:
thecatneuterer · 19/10/2017 22:34

When I said he is stunningly cute and very friendly I was talking about the kitten, not the orthopaedic specialist - although he is quite cute too in truth Grin.

We are looking for a rescue kitten at the moment, but can't find any! We have a ten month old kitten already. He is used to cats as he had a brother who died recently. Would we be allowed to keep one of the kittens?

thecatneuterer · 19/10/2017 22:44

Yes you would Ricotta. Although of course you could just look at adopting a kitten of a similar age to your existing one. Or you could do that and foster!

OP posts:
thecatneuterer · 19/10/2017 22:45

Where do you live Ricotta?

OP posts:
RicottaPancakes · 20/10/2017 07:45

Essex/Suffolk border, so perhaps too far away? What charity /organisation do you work for?

thecatneuterer · 20/10/2017 10:57

Ricotta - yes that is a little too far for us. You're right I never said where I'm from! The Celia Hammond Animal Trust (Canning Town branch).

OP posts:
Ollivander84 · 20/10/2017 11:10

I've asked but they said you need to be able to bottle feed every 2hrs

thecatneuterer · 20/10/2017 11:14

Eh Ollivander? Which charity said that? Very, very occasionally we have very young, orphaned kittens that need bottle feeding and go to specialists, but most kitten fostering is a mum with her newborns or slightly older kittens that need socialising like my three above. Neither of which need bottle feeding.

Ollivander84 · 20/10/2017 11:17

PMd you

BertieBotts · 20/10/2017 16:46

Yes there are lots of organisations which rescue street animals from Romania and bring them here. I'm a little wary though because I just don't know enough about them to know which ones are alright and which are scams. A friend got a dog through one of these organisations and found that they weren't very upfront about the types of behaviour problems they expected the dog to have.

RicottaPancakes · 20/10/2017 17:11

What a shame Catneuterer :( Hope you find some lovely local fosterers.:)

ricecakeseverywhere · 20/10/2017 18:37

Children are sensible 3 and 6. Would that prevent fostering? Appreciate we would have to supervise dc at all times with kittens
