So sad

Our cat has been missing now for a few days. We are out looking every night. I just can't bear the thought of never seeing him again.

OP posts:
LavenderDoll · 12/10/2017 18:39

I think losing him has made me realise how lovely my neighbours are.
Another sighting today - neighbour took a picture and tried to coax him in but the cat was petrified
People have been lovely - children holding the poster looking for him and people taking time out of their lives to call and text with information

Although it's shit circumstances I realise that I'm lucky to be surrounded by good people

Off out with some tuna to try and entice him home

OP posts:
timtam23 · 12/10/2017 19:48

I really hope you find him, try to stay hopeful!

Wolfiefan · 12/10/2017 19:50

Hope the tuna works. A trap isn't a bad idea. Hoping he's home soon.

LavenderDoll · 14/10/2017 07:34

Still looking
Just heading out now for a morning look
Bad winds this weekend which worry me

TheWitchwithNoName · 14/10/2017 08:46

Good luck Lavender

LavenderDoll · 14/10/2017 09:28

When do you stop looking?
I can't imagine stopping as I never want him to think we gave up
But I just wondered when you stopped leafletting and walking the streets every night
Sad

Sending you big hugs you poor thing. The not knowing is the agony.

I think you have to stop looking. If someone finds him they will check his chip but you cannot look forever.

NancyDonahue · 14/10/2017 11:11

I don't think you ever stop looking. You hear these stories of cats turning up after weeks , months, years even. Neutered is great. He shouldn't be getting into scraps over girls. Chipped is great. It only takes one kind person to worry enough about him to take him to a vet and he's home. Lots of positives there.

Keep on getting the message out there, he must be getting food somewhere. Do you have plenty of posters on lamp posts? Dog walkers etc would see them. Pop one by local dog poo bin too. Outside shops, schools, businesses. Keep leaflets in your bag so you can hand them to people you see walking about. Update Facebook lost pet pages regularly. Local selling pages are a good place to post too.

Your local rescue will lend you a trap if he's being seen regularly in one area. They probably won't be able to help you so you'll have to be prepared to check it regularly.

Don't give up Flowers

LavenderDoll · 14/10/2017 11:52

Will put some more posters up I think and keep leafletting
Someone somewhere must have seen him
Hes such a beautiful friendly cat
... not that I'm biased at all Wink

OP my cat was missing for 6 weeks and turned up several miles away. Not a happy ending though and I don't tell the story very often - she couldn't come back to us for a variety of reasons. But I thought you might like to know that they can and do reappear even after a long while. It was the poster in the vets that eventually linked her back to us, plus a posting on a local lost and found facebook group.
Maybe scale down your efforts but don't give up hope.

TuttiFrutti · 14/10/2017 14:02

We have lost cats on several occasions, and sometimes they have been found and in one tragic case we never found him.

The most important thing is publicity, as often they are found miles away from where you think they will be. Leafleting and knocking on doors in your road is great, but won't do much good if the cat has wandered further afield. Have you registered with Animal Search UK? Their facebook page gets a wider reach than an individual one, and it was down to them we managed to trace our most recent missing cat.

MidnightRain · 14/10/2017 14:05

Try putting leaflets through doors, ask around, call round local animal shelters and vets. Put something outside with his scent on it incase he wanders back the way. I hope he’s home soon safe and sound xx

LavenderDoll · 14/10/2017 14:27

Have registered with animal search rescue
One of my neighbours is very on it with Facebook and finding pets and has been sharing his picture on websites e.g..
I've shared with vets in nearby areas and also put posters up in Drs and on lamp posts
Thanks for all lovely messages and ideas - they are all much appreciated

Do you have local FB groups OP? I'm on a few where I live and they are great for getting the word out there that your cat is missing. People are always posting pics of missing cats and often people who live nearby but not in your immediate vicinity spot them in gardens/sheds etc.

LavenderDoll · 14/10/2017 18:01

Yes - there are a lot of local Facebook pages. Which is a revelation to me as I had no idea
A neighbour has shared the missing poster on the pages.
We have had sightings.. but I suppose to a lot of people one black cat looks like another

OP posts:
DavetheCat2001 · 14/10/2017 19:20

Hopefully someone will spot him. Does he have a collar on? It’s reassuring that there have been sightings.

LavenderDoll · 15/10/2017 07:22

Morning
No we never put a collar on as he is a hunter and I didn't want him getting caught on a branch etc .. in hindsight we probably should have put him in one.
Dreamt about him coming home last night and woke disoriented this morning
Saw a cat identical to him yesterday same colouring and markings we even knocked on the door - bet the owner thought I was some crazy cat lady I think I'm the definition of a crazy cat lady
Today I'm going knocking on doors - someone must have seen him.
I saw his foster mum yesterday who we adopted him from and she was lovely. I worried she would think I had let him down but she just gave me a cuddle
Right off to shower and the ready to bother the neighbourhood
He needs to come home soon I have no one to lick my feet and face in the mornings.

OP posts:
LavenderDoll · 15/10/2017 19:20

Sorry all I seem to do is become emotional on this thread
Still not found our beautiful boy
Been approached to adopt another cat ... I don't know. Might help the kids get over him. But I feel like we are letting him down.

Plus when/if he comes home I don't want him to feel like we gave up on him
I can see that this cat might help fill the void but I worry

OP posts:
PosiePootlePerkins · 15/10/2017 22:25

I would hang on a little while. I know its heartbreaking. I do understand the cat void is awful, I've been there and hated it. But cats can and do come home after several weeks. And yes I do think it could confuse or upset him if another cat were there. Hang on in there for another week or two, there will always be other cats needing homes out there. Good luck.

LavenderDoll · 16/10/2017 18:55

Not sure if I can be doing anything extra tonight
Im.worried he's out there alone in the wind

OP posts:
PosiePootlePerkins · 16/10/2017 18:56

FlowersIts the not knowing that's so hard. Sending positive thoughts your way.

Wolfiefan · 16/10/2017 18:58

They are excellent at finding a safe space and staying there. Hope he's home soon.

Dodie66 · 17/10/2017 21:16

So another day and still no sign

OP posts:
Dodie66 · 17/10/2017 22:44

Aw hope he comes home soon
My neighbour had a cat that used to go walkabout for weeks sometimes but he always came back after a while. She never knew where he had been, hugs
