Sadly we've decided to have our 20 year old cat PTS today. He's now little more than skin and bone, he's fully incontinent, has had to be bathed 4 times in the last 2 weeks (which he hates) due to him lying in his own crap, and he's now become very unstable on his back legs. He's also not got much eyesight, I suspect he is deaf and definitely has signs of dementia. It's been a difficult decision because he still is eating, spends all day outside, and still responds a bit to us - but he has gone downhill over the last few weeks so we are finally in agreement that the time has come. We've had him since 8 weeks (with two of his siblings who lasted about 14 and 17 years)
Picture of him from about a couple of weeks ago enclosed.
Phoned my vet and was quoted £170.53 for euthanasia, individual cremation and return of ashes - more or less as expected.
Purely due to timing issues I phoned another local vet with slightly longer opening hours - quote for the same work £317.18. Note to all - worth asking the prices of 'standard' treatments since prices clearly vary considerably.
