Going to meet this cat at the rescue home tomorrow

I'm excited!

It's been 3 years since my lovely girlie cat Daisy passed away, and feel it's time we got a new furry family member. The kids really want a cat to love too.

Hoping she likes us and we are a good match.

She has a good face!

How old is she?

DavetheCat2001 · 04/09/2017 21:16

The vet thinks she is 2-3 years old, which is perfect as we didn't want a kitten. I have 2 young kids already, don't need a third!

The only issue apparently is she was rehired once already, and was brought back as she bit the child of the house. The vet says the owners were honest and said they thought the child was bothering her/ not being as gentle as they could be.

My kids are young, but they are actually very good about being gentle with animals.

I will make a call tomorrow though when we meet her. I don't want to stress her out. If she isn't right for us then we'll have to walk away (hope we don't though!)

Ooh lovely.

I got a cat protection young cat for my 9 year old. She is nervy but such a sweet little thing. She had 'made' our family.

Hope you take that lovely cat.

treaclesoda · 04/09/2017 21:20

She looks lovely, hope she is the one for you. Smile

hugoagogo · 04/09/2017 21:21

Very sweet, but if you think she is going to be rough with your dc you might want to choose a different cat.
Our cat is a little brat who bit and scratched loads to start with, but my dc were teenagers when we got her and we all knew she'd had a tough start and had picked up some bad habits.
That would be a hard thing to explain to little ones though.

DavetheCat2001 · 04/09/2017 21:22

Thanks.

My kids are 4 and 6.5. I am taking my 6 year old with me tomorrow and we shall see how she takes to us.

It'd be lovely to be able to give her a forever home.

She's gorgeous.
Re the biting. One of mine will grab me with her teeth if over stimulated. That cat looks to have shaved front legs. Recovering from an op? Could change behaviour? And some people allow kids to pull animals about. A new cat needs to be left well alone until it approaches you. (Bet you knew that anyway. Sorry!)
We got old girl when she was 2 and also her son 18 months. Yes. Do the maths!!!! She lived to be 19. We missed the mad kitten stage but still had playtimes. Perfect.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 04/09/2017 21:24

Aww, she looks like a shorter haired version of our Fern.

She's gorgeous, I hope you approve of each other tomorrow Grin.

Wolfiefan the vet did give me the impression that Adel (I will be changing her name if we do take her!) is a very loving cat and wants to be a part of everything, so could well be one of those cats that get a bit over stimulated and then take a swipe. I shall have to check that out as I don't want to take her if my kids are frightened to touch her.

At the same time I wouldn't want to take her if my home isn't right for her either. I did point out that my house can be noisy, but she seemed to think Adel would be fine with that.

Santas what a beautiful cat!

Will ask that too, tomorrow Smile

She's a dote. Hope she goes home with you all.

Wolfiefan · 04/09/2017 21:37

Perhaps she has been neutered?
If your kids are school age they're old enough to be a bit quiet round the cat and respectful of her settling in. Maybe the last place had toddlers?

howrudeforme · 04/09/2017 21:48

My cat is nervous. We don't overstimulate her (she'll lash out) but rather feed her and give her a quick stoke as she's passing. We did that for quite a few months and she's v happy with us and gets more confident as time passes.

Depends on your expectation of a cat. Hope it goes well.

DavetheCat2001 · 04/09/2017 22:04

My DD is starting Reception in a week and a half, so during the day both kids will be at school so she'll have a nice peaceful house!

Wolfiefan · 04/09/2017 22:05

Could also have been a very young child picking her up and toddling round with her. I wouldn't be surprised if she did nip in that case.
I really hope it works out. Good luck OP.

DavetheCat2001 · 04/09/2017 22:06

Thanks guys..I shall report back tomorrow Grin x

Super cute!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 04/09/2017 22:16

I hope it goes well tomorrow.

When I was little we had a cat who bit and scratched (she'd been tormented by children) and I soon learned to give her a wide berth. It didn't stop me loving cats!

Toddlerteaplease · 04/09/2017 22:20

What a gorgeous cat OP. Keeping my paws crossed it works out for you.

Is it he cat for you? Hope so!

DavetheCat2001 · 05/09/2017 15:20

Yes! I'vs said we'd like her.

Have to wait now for an RSPCA appointment to check out our house, and then we should be good to go.

She is so adorable!

Any cat update?

Our cat is a nervy cat (rescue cat) and will take a swipe if he feels threatened/wants us to take a step back. But it is rare and he keeps his claws in. He's a big softy and comes to us for cuddles.
