Cat food to get/avoid

There was a thread a while back saying avoid whiskers etc as it has cereals in. What should I feed my cat?

Mine loved Thrive dry when I got the samples. Now I've bought a big bag she barely touches it. I'm not backing down though as she put a load of weight on from eating her sisters kitten food which has grains in it. She was proper bloated and her belly has gone right down now.

Harry's food is grain free and it still doesn't look too pleasant after it's been down for a while! Like Dumbledore, I don't have children so he's our company and I'm quite happy to pander to him. He's had a crap couple of years and can no longer eat what he wants so if I can make him a bit happier by giving him the next best thing I will.

Our cat is 13 and has never been ill. She likes Felix, Tesco own brand, Aldi own brand. She also eats cat biscuits and treats and we give her cooked chicken etc now and then.

She won't eat Asda own brand or Whiskers.

Mine has James Wellbeloved dry. I try to get him to drink more water but he's funny about it. He drinks cat milk most days, has a good drink of my bath water (grim!) and drinks from our water glasses at night. He has a bowl in the garden he drinks from too.
He just won't drink from his bowl in the kitchen. Confused

Is the bowl in the kitchen near his food? I've noticed that Harry drinks more now we've moved the water bowl. Apparently cats don't like having their food and drink together.

Royal canin low calorie dry food that helps crystals stop forming. My boy needs them but they both eat the same. No wet food as told by vet it was bad for our boy (overweight house cat).
Costs me about £100 for 2 x 9kg bags which lasts about 3 months.
