What are you feeding at the moment?

What sort of quality cat food brands are people feeding their cats right now? I recently moved and now longer have the freezer space for Nature's Menu raw, which is my preference. I switched to Thrive but 1) it made Bibi fat(ter) and 2) too expensive to comprise whole diet. Anyone want to share what their overlords are enjoying at the moment? TIA!

Mine likes Ella's kitchen dry at the moment but not the wet, also is ok with a sample of Purina dry I got in Sainsbury's.She had been eating Sheba wet but has now decided it's not to her liking, we've been through all the Zooplus wet food too!

HemanOrSheRa · 12/08/2017 19:59

I prefer to feed my two animonda carny. In the 800g cans. But we are going on holiday on Monday and our VERY reliable cat/house sitter has a problem chunking it up whilst his temporary Master/Mistress are bullying him for food Grin. So I've been feeding them Butchers Classic over the last 3 weeks for an easy transition Smile. They love it and it'll be easier for their temporary slave. Neither of mine really like dry food. Maybe a nibble of Applaws. But they aren't fussed.

dementedpixie · 12/08/2017 20:09

Oh yes also tried butchers classic but they didn't like all the jelly and wouldn't eat one of the flavours at all

HemanOrSheRa · 12/08/2017 20:17

I know what you mean pixie. There is a lot of jelly. One of mine loves the jelly. One hates it. There seems to be a big puddle of it in the bottom of the can. I shake the tin vigorously before opening. That some times solves it.

CatchingBabies · 12/08/2017 20:31

There so fussy arnt they these spoilt cats! Can you imagine them in the wild, "oh no I can't eat that it's too soft/hard wet/dry" 😂😂

EachandEveryone · 12/08/2017 20:45

I'm interested in the report on Simila and Animonda as there the two I have loads of spare tins of!!!

Demented is that two full big sachets each a day plus dry? I'm a sod with measurements do you leave the dry out freely? Daphne is getting porky since we got the kitten I wonder why

I do think supermarkets should cop on to stocking good quality kitten food there's only ever felix or whiskas or own brand.

dementedpixie · 12/08/2017 21:01

Yes I put out a pouch each (85g) twice a day. They don't eat it all at once and come back and forth a few times until it's gone. I put 2 scoops (I have a small ladle) of dry food in 2 other bowls for leaving out all day. They seem to stop when they've had enough

oldmanfromscene24 · 12/08/2017 21:26

My little bag of fluff is currently on a mix of Ava and wainwrights light (although she'd not to fussed on the wainwrights so I won't bother with these next shop). She has purina dried as a snack too. Watching this thread with interest as she gets bored with foods so I chop and change occasionally.

EachandEveryone · 12/08/2017 23:29

I really would recommend sainsburys taste the difference pouches wnd their grainfree dry. Do you think the cats get bored or just us?

iloveeverykindofcat · 13/08/2017 08:17

Zara would never ever get bored of Gourmet Perle Ocean Delights or Fisherman Selection or whatever its called. She would eat this exclusively for the rest of her life. I don't like the ingredients much though, and it brings out her tendency to red/itchy skin on the inside of her legs.

Mine have Royal Canin Persian. They are allowed half a wet pouch as a treat on a Sunday evening. Got given some of the posher brands and they don't like those! Think Snorg is getting a bit chunky again so will have to watch that.

iloveeverykindofcat · 13/08/2017 09:49

Yeah my vet said dry puts weight on them because its calorie dense and unless you weigh the portion every day most people over-estimate what they need. Zara is mostly self-regulating so she gets a very small amount of JWB dry daily but Bibi would eat and eat and eat if I allowed her. She's a pretty lazy cat and the truth is she doesn't need much food.

Dry is also generally higher carbohydrate than wet, cats don't really have much requirement for carbohydrate in their diet, they can tolerate much higher than they actually need but for some individuals (just like us!) that can lead to obesity, diabetes etc.

dementedpixie · 13/08/2017 09:59

Dry can be full of carbs rather than meat and cats don't need many carbs so they are more likely to put on weight with dry food. Wet food is good to get moisture especially if your cats don't drink much

Xpost!

EachandEveryone · 13/08/2017 12:12

Because I've had a lie in it's mid day and they've clean there bowls I've decided to try not to free feed and feed them at 7 tonight it's very difficult when u are at wit though u have no choice but to leave dry down

dementedpixie · 13/08/2017 12:14

Is one of yours not a kitten though? They are supposed to feed little and often and will eat proportionately more than an adult cat.

dementedpixie · 13/08/2017 12:15

How much do you normally feed them?

EachandEveryone · 13/08/2017 12:52

She is a kitten and is putting on nicely. She's just been fed I tend to give her three half wets a day unless it's her favourite felix she gets the full one as I don't think it fills her. I can't get her off it.

They each have 50g of hills science dry the kitten has dry applepaws mixed in. Then Daph has two sachets a day 85g I can't deny she's putting weight on. She has Sheba/Hills/Sainsbury's Finest/country Hunter and the list goes on!

The baby has two wet feeds and if I get a third to her at random times but she always has it somehow . She's more obsessed with dry than Daphne she's also the one that sits by the sweetie drawer she's addicted to treats it says they aren't for kittens either but she's always had them

dementedpixie · 13/08/2017 12:58

Mine like dreamies and those webbox sticks and more recently cosma dried meat snacks (got them from bitiba I think, was a trial pack of 4 flavours)

EachandEveryone · 13/08/2017 16:21

Mines gone off Weebox sticks overnight its bizarre. They are both obbsessed with likelix they turn their noses up at healthy treats.

dementedpixie · 13/08/2017 16:24

mine didn't like the cosma smackies to begin with but now they Hoover them up. They are 100% meat

EachandEveryone · 13/08/2017 16:35

Smackies? What a funny name!

dementedpixie · 13/08/2017 16:38

Should say snackies not smackies Grin

dementedpixie · 13/08/2017 16:40

This is the trial pack I bought
