Being picked up tomorrow! Ignore the poop in the background that's not my house haha.
I want to name her something Harry Potter related as I'm obsessed but DP is not complying 😉 Any ideas??

I think the trick is not to force it. What's his back ground has he been in a cage or from a house?

SuperFlyHigh · 09/06/2017 21:47

agreed with eachandeveryone don't force him to come out, but tempt him with treats, play etc.

Also just sitting in a room having tea and reading helps.

My Felix spent 2 weeks under an IKEA church bench in my box room when I first got him! As I was only at home a few days with him alone my mum came over and dangled toys at the end of the bench and we both separately drank tea and read in that room. He then came out one time and begged for a dunked Rich tea biscuit!

I even brought a blanket with his mum's scent on over from his old house for him, but eventually he came out and came down stairs to the lower part of my maisonette and into the living room.

She looks quite like our new kitten that we got 2 weeks ago! We have named her Nahla!

Goldensunnydays81 · 09/06/2017 21:56

Just seen that it is a little boy! Hope he comes out to play soon and is feeling a bit more confident!
Our one came home and acted as if she owned the place from straight away!

Parmaviolets13 · 09/06/2017 22:19

Oh super that's promising! I managed to get him to eat tonight plus he did a wee in his tray, hurrah.
He came from a house. He was the last kitten to go I believe.
He's currently snoozing under my table so we have put his bed under too to see if he'll want to lie on that instead Grin
We've just been acting as normal when he's here but he's so cute it's so hard not to try and get him to play!

OP, I think sometimes if last of litter to go they may be attached to mum (mine was).

I dangled things like shoe laces down the side of the gap where church bench is and he must have been bored because he started to play. Also dreamies do work.

If he is in a quiet room (Felixway can help) or if one of you is in the room, just reading and with tea etc then the cat feels more relaxed and human and that you're not to be feared. Then it's small steps to feeding and exploring other areas of your home.

If he hasn't been handled much (yes some breeders/owners don't do this) then slightly harder for you as you have to win him over more.

Ah beds... Felix will lie on a mohair throw, fleece dressing gown etc... On my bed or what was the bed in the box room. They love textures and it's comfort for them - the kneading part. A nice cushion helps too...

Aww I hope he settles in soon! My boy owned the place from the word go, even though we had to give him 2 flea baths in his first week with us! Although The first thing ds did when we got Dcat home was drop a prawn sandwich... so maybe albus might fancy some seafood Wink

Parmaviolets13 · 10/06/2017 18:13

He's been better today! He's come out a few times and explored and played. He was snoozing earlier on the rug (which he seems to love to play with!) he's gone back behind the sofa now but I imagine he's just comfy behind there 😁 This was him about an hour ago...

Gorgeous boy

SuperFlyHigh · 10/06/2017 18:54

OP, that's better!

Felix my kitten was bloody awful, I had to lift up the church bench a couple of times to check he was ok... Then he just scuttled back under there...

2 weeks i had to leave him there and not much sign of him eating or using the litter tray Hmm. Did eat treats. Mum who came round lots and stayed during the day (I was there a week) said he didn't come out for her either. He did miaow a lot during the night and woke my then lodger, presumably the miaowing was for his mum. Teddies helped. I thought bringing blanket with scent of his mum would help but it upset him more...

Cats love texture and softness so the rug with tassels (he may play with them) would appeal to your kitten.

Strangely about 6 months ago (he's now 3) there is a bowl on my dining table with lots of things in there and his old collar from when he lived with his mum, it was hidden under some stuff then he hunted it out and saw it and went mad over it, was very pleased... (With the scent of his old house, his mum etc).
