Is there any way to discourage a cat that's trying to claim you/your house?

Cat has been hanging around for weeks desperate to join our family and sitting on windowsills meowing to be let in etc. It has abandoned its previous owners due to a dog or something, not fully clear to me.

Will it eventually give up and try somewhere else? We haven't been feeding it though the children do like petting it when they are outside. I don't want to take on a cat at this point.

well one thing thats certain if hes not been fed by you or his owners he will dissapear because he will have starved to death, do you know who his owners are go round and tell them hes constantly at your house and you dont want to take him on tell them to either come to yours and claim thier cat back or get him rehomed to someone who will care for him properly

Do you know anyone who would like to give him a home, if as you say, he's made himself homeless?

That's exactly how we got our cat, just rocked up and refused to leave. He was in such a state and starving. He's lovely now and been with us a year and a halfSmile
