Abandoned 1 week old kitten being taken in by foster cat

Hey everyone,

So I've had a couple of threads about my foster cat who has just had five babies, they are three weeks old today and are all doing really well and Mam has gone back to her chilled out cuddly self. So this afternoon we got a call saying that a one week old kitten had been found abandoned and could we see if our foster cat would accept it.
The answer is yes she will, she sniffed it and licked it straight away and then let it feed off her. It's still early days but it now has the best chance of survival.

And of course, here is a pic

Pumpkin - we fostered four black kittens and they were Parker, Quink, Windsor and Newton from the inks. You could add India and then have one rogue one!

What an absolutely lovely cat! My rescue girl also had kittens at 8 months or so - I didn't meet them but Cats Protection said she did a great job.

Want2beme · 08/06/2017 12:16

Ah, he had little punk feet. She loves him.

I saw your thread where she was due to arrive and said to hide your fluffy jumper in case she decides to give birth on it.

I am thrilled to bits to see the kittings! They're gorjuss! I'm so glad that she was comfy enough with you to have her babies without fretting.

And she's a star for taking that abandoned baby on.

And you're a star for taking her on.

Excellent suggestion. You could and Lamy to the list too - I have a Lamy pen and they have their own refills.

Sweetpeas kittens are quite big now! They are fluffy and I luvs them.
She's not even slightly fazed by us touching them now.

Aaah, this is a welcome antidote to RL politics-based news today...well done OP and your lovely foster cat. This is making me so cat broody. I desperately want to foster cats but DH isn't having it Sad.

HappyFlappy I do this too..I keep a list on my phone of potential cat/dog names - male/female and by breed/colour Blush

Weedsnseeds1 · 08/06/2017 16:01

What a lovely story. The new addition looks so tiny next to the others!

HappyFlappy · 08/06/2017 16:14

It's a perfectly normal and totally not obsessive thing to do at all, isn't it yellowDahlia?

HappyFlappy · 08/06/2017 16:16

That teeny-tiny kitting next to his/her big brother or sister is delightful

Papergirl1968 · 08/06/2017 16:19

Lovely thread. Will foster kitty go back to his birth mum when she's moved out of the factory or stay with foster mum?

sashh · 08/06/2017 17:04

One trick from foster dad john to count them is to put coloured hair bands round their necks - just until you have counted them, get bands that are not tight obviously.

Not much point naming them if you can't tell them apart, but the new one should be 'kitty fantastico the mighty atom'.

GRW · 08/06/2017 17:18

What a star your foster cat is. I expect there will be a lot of people offering to rehome her after her mumsnet fame. She will make someone a loving pet I'm sure.

CraftyMummyof3Tiddlers · 08/06/2017 17:34

FOSSY because it's a foster cat

Scribblegirl · 09/06/2017 18:39

Oh you're wonderful. We got our two kittens from a family who had 'taken in' a stray (or rather, stray had deigned to give birth at their house!) I'm so pleased they found the mum, breaks my heart to think of someone abandoning a kitten that's only hours old. Sad

SentientCushion · 09/06/2017 19:21

He wasn't abandoned by a person scribble what we think happened is the Mam tried to move the litter inside when it started to rain and got scared off after only moving one. If the litter splits they can sometimes only look after the bigger group. They watched for the Mam for a while but he was completely on his own and would have died of the cold.
