When did you first realise you loved your cat (i.e they had 'won' !)

I've had my adopted cat for 2 months now ( rehomed from blue cross)- he is my first cat and within a week I wondered how I'd ever lived without one but we were still 'getting to know each other' so he wasn't overly affectionate! He isn't allowed to sleep in my room as I don't want him to disturb my sleep. He usually sleeps outside the door and is waiting when I get up.
This morning I was awake early so let him in and got back into bed ( I don't usually do this) - he jumped up, padded a bit then lay down. He then proceeded to nudge closer and closer until he could touch my face with his paw - and that's all he wanted to do. If I moved my face a bit he just wriggled until he could touch it gently again with his paw. As soon as he realised I wasn't going to move he fell asleep- and I realised that he has finally won- I am now 100% his cat slave and will spend the rest of his life trying to make him happy 😀

Oh Olli has just killed me. Those eyes.

Vinorosso74 · 06/06/2017 21:38

As soon as I went in her pen at the CP adoption centre she kept coming to say hi but then changing her mind to not sure. She just seemed the right cat for us and that was that!

TheEmmaDilemma · 06/06/2017 21:43

Oh I forgot:

Emcat1: When she was tiny and I came home at lunch to check on her and couldn't find her any where. I searched high and low and was a crying mess. Eventually found her under SS's bed asleep in a toy boat.

Emcat2: Just one day a few days after I got him and he looked at me with these eyes that showed total reliance and trust.

To this day they will sleep on the bed either side pinning me down and I won't move for hours for fear of waking them.

MinkyWinky · 06/06/2017 21:47

I fell in love with BatCat the first night he was came home (we adopted him and fluff cat). We were lying on the bed and I was giving him cat kisses. He slowly blinked back at me and that was it. I'm now his whereas my DH is Fluffcat's. I thought it was going to be the other way round as BatCat blanked me in the rescue centre!!

MinkyWinky · 06/06/2017 21:53

I should say I do love Fluff cat too. He comes and sits on my keyboard when he thinks I've been working too long. I fell in love with him when I saw him staring through the window at the rescue centre. I now know he was scared so liked to see what was coming. He's very cuddly but lives the person who gives him food regularly (DH)

LouiseBrooks · 06/06/2017 21:55

I got mine when he was 10 weeks and I always thought he was adorable but I realised just how precious he was when he was hit by a car when he was 3. It was horrendous, he had various fractures and was rather ill but recovered. He's now 16 and as I become more aware that we don't have too much time left, he is even more important to me than ever.

When she fell asleep in DP arms a day after coming home with us. He then fell asleep and I just stared lovingly at the two of them!

Cookie when she crawled up onto my arms for a cuddle in the rescue.

Biscuit when he started following me all around the house about 2 days in.

DeleteOrDecay · 07/06/2017 16:28

Pretty much the day he came home. He fell asleep on my arm on the first night, we've only had him for 2 weeks but can't imagine life without him now!

Kokusai · 08/06/2017 08:40

I didn't know a you could love a cat so much! The cats I had as a child weren't great pets.

I knew I was in love when he climbed up from my lap onto my neck and nuzzled there purring away. He is much less of a lap cat now (likes to be near you not on you) but every night he comes onto my bad for a neck nuzzle.

caffeinestream · 08/06/2017 09:40

The kitten: when we picked her up from the rescue, and she cried in her carrier, so I let her sit on my lap while we were driving home, and she looked at me, squeaked, and promptly fell asleep, purring the entire way.

The Maine coon: took a bit longer as he was rehomed from a family where he wasn't treated very well, and he was quite aggressive and aloof for a while. But about a week in, I went to use the bathroom and he pushed through the door, got on my lap (very rare occurrence) and gave me kisses on the nose, jumped down and left. It was like he'd wondered where I was and was making sure I was okay!

SanFranBear · 08/06/2017 15:23

I rehomed my boy about 5 months after losing my first ever cat and it took me a long time to adjust - he was just such a different character.

However, about 3 months after he came to us, he had a really nasty health scare and I thought we were going to lose him. I drove miles and miles to emergency vets and spent hundreds and hundreds on treatment (on New Years Eve, of course) and I suddenly realised he was so very very precious to me.

Love him even more now, if that's possible.

Ski37 · 13/06/2017 21:05

So I've finally relented and now keep my bedroom door open at night. Cat seems to have decided the bath mat in the en suite is his favourite place to sleep 🙄 He then has a bit of walk/ jump all over me at 4 am before settling back down to sleep next to me until 6 at which point he starts head butting me or my alarm goes off- whichever comes first 😹

Also, after he has been attacked twice by a local cat ( feral?) I now keep the patio doors open everytime he is outside and never venture far from the kitchen so he knows I am there .... he repays this by constantly running in for a fuss and if I leave the kitchen he comes in looking for me and won't leave again until I'm there ..... 100% cat slave and I always thought I was a dog person 😹😹😹

My girl was from a friend. She is self contained and fiesty and I love the bones of her!

GardenGeek - I'm with you completely on that! I don't have DC and always thought I was a very pragmatic, rational person until the bloody cat got in a fight and I wanted to kill the other cat - completely unreasonable I know! i

Yup, I was deeply offended last week when the vet didn't say Biscuit was lovely. Blush

This came AFTER I brought him to the vet for a few vomits.

WinkyisbackontheButterBeer · 13/06/2017 22:51

See, this is what I mean. I am dying for a wee but she is laid on mt lap, gazing lovingly at me so I can't possibly move.

When i picked her up one day and she wriggled onto her back and gently stroked my face with her wonderfully cute soft fluffy paw.

I knew i was really a slave when I laid out a selection of food for her to try because i was worried she might not like her original food. Before I got her I used to scoff at silly cat people who pandered to their cats every food whim and would think they'd eat what was there if they were hungry enough.

Never thought I could love a cat so much, i wanted a dog.
