Cat fell out of upstairs window

Resident dippy cat fell out of the bedroom window just now . I came into the room to see him walking along the sill and attempt to jump onto the flat roof of the garage but he seemed to lose confidence mid jump and landed in the (thankfully tall and bushy) celery growing in the bed below rather than the patio next to it.

I raced down with my heart in my mouth and he trotted straight over to me and seems fine. I've felt him over/watched him walk and he's not limping, doesn't seem in pain etc.

Should I assume he's fine or should I be taking him to be checked out?

I honestly don't know. Don't let him go outside and see how he is tomorrow I would say. Poor boy.

I know poor baby. I'm keeping him in and I'll assess in the morning. He seems totally fine but I'm still worried. If anything seems wrong in morning I'll take him straight to vets.

Our cat once fell out of an upstairs window. I happened to be in the room below & got a bit of a fright when I saw the cat come flying past the window and landing on the ground. Thankfully he was absolutely fine. Hopefully your boy will be OK too.

Ours did that, at speed - ran across the room, leapt up on to the windowsill and went headfirst out the window! We raced downstairs and she came round the corner looking all nonchalant like that's exactly what she'd meant to do.

She lived another 12 years after that.

Hope he's ok in the morning. Many years ago our kitten fell out of the window of our second floor flat. Luckily she too landed in foliage and was fine. Felt so sick running down to find her.

We have 3 cats and in my experience I'd say he is ok.
If he will let you pick him up and give him a cuddle then in my opinion he won't be in any pain.
Cats can be very loving but if they are not well and in any sort of discomfort and you try to pick them up, then they will let you know as they usually hiss and possibly scratch or bite you .
Put a bowl of water out and let him sleep.

They do say that they land on their feet. I don't think it's strictly true but I think their skeletons are very flexible and absorb falls without injury quite well.

I seem to remember reading that they can fall from anything up to the seventh storey and be fine but I can't remember where I heard it now.

If it helps our stable cat had an entire big round bale of hay dropped on her - not a scratch. Then poisoned herself. She likes to have a near death experience about once a year just to make sure the humans know how precious she is

Oh god this happened with our younger boy, he took a flying leap to get on the windowsill and went sailing out the window.
FIrst we knew was seeing him going flying past the ground floor window.

I raced out to find him standing next to the garden door looking slightly surprised but thankfully not hurt.

Keep an eye on him, I'm sure he will be fine.

He's curled up on me in bed and I've let him drink out of my water glass, which he frequently tries to do and I stop him by putting a piece of paper on which he's too dim to knock off .

He couldn't believe his luck and celebrated/thanked me by rubbing his face all over mine whilst chirruping and then when he had built himself up to a dribbly climax he vigorously shook his head and sprayed it all over me

Many years ago, mine did that and broke his leg. He was in plaster for 6 weeks and hold up in a pen - very stressful for all. Vet charged £100 for emergency Saturday afternoon call out in London . The country where I live now, I recently took my other cat to the vet as an emergency on a Sunday afternoon and he didn't charge me a penny.

When I was a child our cat fell four stories from the attic bedroom window into a concrete yard and was okay. The cat had somehow got out onto the window ledge, and my sister who was about eight at the time decided to open the window to let the cat in.

Unfortunately it was the kind of window which pivots in the middle like a garage door, so by opening the window she actually knocked the cat off the ledge and the poor mog went flying. My dad saw it go past the dining room window and ran down to the kitchen, which was on the bottom floor of the house, in time to find the cat looking dazed and a bit shaken out in the yard.

The cat did hit his jaw on the ground and broke a tooth, so he was taken to the vet for a once over but other than the broken tooth he was fine.

Obviously take him to vet if you are at all concerned but I can reassure you with yet another story of a window diving cat. I had a notoriously dim black and white cat and while he was still a kitten, my poor mum opened her bedroom curtains to find kitten looking in at her from the outside of the first floor window, having climbed the creeper! She tried to open the (old sash) window very cautiously, kitten jumped at the noise, leapt backwards ...

He was fine and grew to be a huge, healthy, but very dim black and white cat!
