Some horrible bastard has shot my cat in the eye

Went out this morning as usual and I thought it was a little odd that I hadn't seen him at the window wanting to be in....then DH finds him outside hiding with a bloody eye. Literally dripping blood.

We took him off to the vet and just had a phone call informing us that the bleeding and swelling was caused by a shotgun pellet. I just can't get my head around why someone would want to shoot an innocent animal.

We're picking him up once we've picked DD up from nursery and GDP can get here but I feel like I'm in shock. My poor little Mac Sad

I think you do really need to report them. Next time your cat could be dead :(

Here's the rules incidentally: basc.org.uk/airgunning/advice/basc-air-rifle-code-of-practice/

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 11/05/2017 19:22

Holy fuck Shock

What the fuck is wrong with some people?! Do they not have an ounce of decency? It's absolutely disgusting. Poor little Mac!

I have absolutely no useful advice but I would feel like throttling the little scrote that did that.

McDougal · 11/05/2017 19:26

DH has rang them and they're sending someone round tomorrow.

I don't think I can face letting Mac outside anymore. If this can happen once, it can happen again. It's such a shame as he loves going out and rolling in the grass but it doesn't seem worth it.

Fluffycloudland77 · 11/05/2017 19:33

You could build an enclosure for him.

WatcherOfTheNight · 11/05/2017 19:51

Wow! Shock
He is one lucky boy!
Glad to hear the police are sending someone to you.
Hope they can find the evil bastardsAngry

TheMysteriousJackelope · 11/05/2017 20:08

I hope he continues to recover well.

Maybe you could take him out when you can be with him. If this was an accident knowing you in the area might make your neighbors take more care. If it was intentional Angry it should put them right off. Our cat only wants to go outside if I can be next to her.

NameChange30 · 11/05/2017 20:15

Wait and see what the police say tomorrow. With any luck, the neighbours' air rifle might be confiscated and that would make it safer for Mac. Or you could cat-proof your garden.

Wolfiefan · 11/05/2017 20:16

Really shocked and sorry to read this. Thinking of your poor boy tonight. Flowers

HoldBackTheRain · 11/05/2017 22:13

Hope your lovely boy is back to normal as soon as possible. Flowers

HemanOrSheRa · 11/05/2017 22:19

Bloody hell. What is wrong with people Angry? Your poor boy. I hope he gets well soon. Lots of snuggles and treats for Mac. Bless him Flowers.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 11/05/2017 22:35

Fucking evil wicked sadistic twisted cunt/s. If i had my way they'd serve 10 years in Alcatraz.
How could any possibly hurt something so innocent. Its beyond any human comprehension.
Give your poor poor boy a hug from us. (((((((())))))))

McDougal · 11/05/2017 22:36

I think I will still take him out when we're in the garden which should quite often now it's warming up.

Just managed to get some drops in his eye which has made it weep again so hoping that clears up by the morning.

Thanks for all the Flowers. It's been a bit of a shock but talking on here has really helped Smile

This is dreadful. I hope Mac's not too traumatised. Ask the police if it's possible to publicise the fact that this has happened. Maybe that'll make the git responsible think twice about doing it again.

Why are your neighbours kids shooting guns in their garden, (I know you can't answer this)? It really makes you wonder about some people.

Highmaintenancefemalestuff · 11/05/2017 22:45

My cat was shot in the eye. I was quite young at the time and noticed one day she couldn't open it properly. Unfortunately she had to have the eye removed. Some people are just so cruel Angry

SomeOtherFuckers · 11/05/2017 23:42

AngrySad my brother once shot a squirrel .. I have never been so angry with anyone I nearly battered him. poor kitty - hope he recovers quickly and well x

GigiBuffon · 11/05/2017 23:53
Flowers Angry
Babyblues14 · 12/05/2017 00:00

Hi, I'm so sorry this happened. I had an identical experience when I was 13. Mum was out of town, brother was looking after me. Woke up to find my cat in the garden with her eyes three time the normal size, bright red and bleeding. Also she could hardly breath. She went missing for a few days near bonfire night so we were expecting the worst.
Vets said that from the damage in her throat and to her eye it looked as though some cunt had put a firework in her mouth and lit it. Also half her ears had burnt off. They removed the eye and she is still here now but getting on a bit. Lots of walking into walls and hating her stitches in the beginning.
If I ever got my hands on the bastards I would be in jail, pets are like family Flowers

Weedsnseeds1 · 12/05/2017 02:35

I don't think that is a shotgun or an air rifle pellet. Too big for shotgun and air rifle pellets are rounded with a flange behind. That's from a BB gun or a catapult.
Pretty unlikely to be accidental either way. Hope the police take it seriously.

Broken11Girl · 12/05/2017 02:45

Angry your poor cat. I'm glad he's relatively ok, hope he recovers well. And hope the police beat up throw the book at the twunts.

McDougal · 12/05/2017 10:12

Just back from the vet and not much to tell really. We've got eye drops and an antibiotic that does on his food and back Wednesday to see how he's doing.

They keep mentioning removing his eye if no improvement so I'm just hoping there's an improvement by Wednesday.

Mac seems fine in himself and isn't trying to paw at it (yet) so fingers crossed!

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 12/05/2017 10:48

Glad Mac seems fine in himself this morning. Fingers crossed that the antibiotics and the drops help him and he shows an improvement!

The stories on this thread are making me feel sick. I'm now wondering if I should keep my cats indoors to prevent things like this happening to them. BabyBlues your story in particular is awful. There are some absolute bastards in this world.

Babyblues14 · 12/05/2017 14:23

I know and considering I'd had her since she was a baby and I had kept her in for the first few years of her life as I was worried something would happen anyway. And then six months after I did let her that bloody happened. She is an indoor cat now but thats more her choice she still gets scared and hates the sight of fire.
Glad your cat is out of the vets McDougal x if they were to remove it it would have been straight away, hoping the eye drops and antibiotics do good x

McDougal · 12/05/2017 15:16

That's awful babyblues. Sorry, I missed your post when replying earlier. It's awful that there are people out there who can do things like this.

OP posts:
AnnetteCurtains · 12/05/2017 15:49

Fucking hell Blue your poor cat

Babyblues14 · 12/05/2017 16:24

She's not too bad now just a bit nervous, we lived in a horrible area at the time. We moved pretty quick after that. Its still the worse thing I have ever seen in my life though. Couldnt stop throwing up after I left her at the vets
